I remember when this came out...The "execs" at Disneyland Records in Burbank heard Burt's song score for Lost Horizon, and loved it. Jimmy JOhnson, president and co-founder of Disneyland Records thought it would be great if the "Disney Chorus" did a few of the songs....so they did "their" version of it, utilizing Stalwart Disney arranger Buddy Baker....

I rue the day that Burt and Hal ever got involved with "Lost Horizon." Think of all the years of more and more great Bacharach/David songs Dionne would have recorded! Not to mention what it did to Burt.

Absolutely! It was a terrific score, no doubt about it. But as good as that score was, I would have sacrificed that score to have seen Burt, Hal and Dionne stay together for 10 more years. My point is that whenever I see the words "Lost Horizon", I get a bad feeling, knowing what that whole debacle set in motion. Keep in mind, too, that Burt stopped composing for a good while after the reviews came out. It sent him into a real tailspin, creatively speaking. My guess is that Burt is a very sensitive man. "Promises, Promises" was an enormous Broadway hit, and, still, he never followed it up with another one. I'd bet anything that Neil Simon and Hal David would have loved to create another Broadway show with Burt. Thank god, too, that "Promises, Promises" WAS a big hit. God only knows what bad reviews would have done to Burt way back in 1968. I am so very curious to see what Burt reveals in his upcoming book about so many things -- and, in this case, what he says about the "Lost Horizon" experience and what it did to him.
