I think it's fair to say that Paul Anka wrote one or two songs in the mid-60s that showed a strong Bacharach influence, particularly 'When We Get There' sung by Kiki Dee. Outside of Dusty Springfield I think Ms Dee was probably the most soulful female singer to emerge in the UK during the 60s and Motown obviously thought so because they offered her a recording contract.

I always thought that Kiki Dee seemed to be singing well within herself and tended to come across as just too nice and polite to really let herself go. The one time that wasn't the case was in the mid-70s when she had a brief spell as a 'rock chick' and toured the UK rock circuit with her own band on the back of the hit single 'I Got The Music In Me' and the accompanying album. I caught her and the band at the Bracknell Sports Centre during that tour and they really tore the place up. This TV performance in 1974 of the hit single in front of an audience more than hints at the excitement of that gig.
