Burt live on DVD

Post by nowmedical »

I went to the London Roundhouse concert last year and when I saw this DVD on sale - the whole concert, with full orchestra - I risked the small price involved (£5). The DVD arrived and it is a proper BBC recording of the concert.

So if you want to see rather than just hear Burt - essentially the same concert he has done for the last couple of years (eg. Sydney, Rome) - including the marvellous instrumental track 10 "For the Children" I can vouch for this DVD.

Yes, this is a very good recording and, TV guest artists aside, is very close to the set list performed at his concerts from early 2008.

Which brings me to another unofficial DVD that, to my mind mind, should have been commercially released years ago: "Burt Bacharach & Dionne Warwick at the Rainbow Room" NYE 1996. If ever there was a definite live recording of Dionne and Burt this would have to be it.

I don't know of any commercially available DVD that features Burt and Dionne together in a complete concert, yet AMC - the American cable channel that broadcast the show has never released it. I know I've moaned about this before but it does seem a litle odd. So, 13 years after the performance I emailed AMC, for what it was worth, to see if they had any plans to put it out. Their somewhat automated response was as follows:

"Thank you for your interest in AMC and its original programming. Unfortunately, original documentaries seen on AMC are not available for request or purchase. However, please visit our website at http://www.amctv.com (or http://www.amc-tv.net in Canada) for future air dates. We appreciate your support of AMC."

Mmmm......... a documentary???!!! Ah well, never mind - thought I'd give it a try.
