gilbert o' sullivan fav. song All Kinds of People

Post by hereiam »

While listening to BBC Radio 2 Ken Bruce show this week , his guest
singer/songwriter Gilbert O' Sullivan (remember Alone Again Naturally?)
Thursday's choice of fav. songs are "The Kiss" by Judee Sill
and Bacharach's "All Kinds of People"

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/bruce ... l?thisweek

He did a wonderful analysis of Bacharach's music
and talked about why he picked "All Kinds of People"

But my biggest discovery is the song "The Kiss" by Judee Sill
It's so special (has that feel that couldn't be explained)
that I had to marvel why there were so many
great singers/songwriters emerging in the first 5 years of the 70s

Judee Sill was just one of the lesser known ones but produced
awesome music

How far into the show, do you know, was the analysis of Burt's music? It's a 2-1/2 show. You can jump ahead by 5 minute or 15 minute increments, so if you have an idea of where it is, that would be helpful. I just jumped ahead by 5 minute intervals eleven times and still didn't hear it.

Gilbert had about three hits which were great, and I spent money on his LPs trying to find deep cuts, but to no avail ... just hoping to save money for anyone here from paying money on GEMM ... Gilbert's other stuff is out of print so he won't see royalties from sales so he won't lose money by my dissing him.

Just another example of even 1 or 2 or 3-hit artists from that time - about all were enlightened and wrote great melodies/music then. Nowadays no one can write a single enlightened, beautiful tune at all. Beauty implies sadness, melancholy which can't possibly be tolerated nowadays ... so no one dares tries ...

Actually he has been writing songs till now and on average published a
new CD every other year.
But his masterpiece is one called "Every Song Has Its Play" (around 1995)
It's the best orchestrated CD I have ever heard (for those of us here
who likes BB for his skills in orchestration, the CD would please us)
Also the melodies of every song on it is so wonderful that I highly
recommend it to people here
Yet it's not easy to buy it. Visit Gilbert's site
http://www.gosullivan.com
to see if you could get hold of the best CD that this singer/songwriter
has ever recorded.
Believe me, every time I listen to the CD, I just could not help
wondering if this music is from this world
