some more arrangers...
I think maybe Stan Getz should be added to the list. He has a great album of mostly BB/HD songs; I assume he did the arranging, but perhaps not. Then, too, there is Paul Mauriat, the French orchestra leader who hit it big here with "Love is Blue" in '68. He had an arrangement of "I Say a Little Prayer" that I remember. Steve

Who arranged Aretha's version of "I Say A Little Prayer For You"?
Burt has said that that was the better version (versus his own with Dionne). That's quite some compliment. (He also said that Richard Carpenter's version of "Close To You" was also better than his own with Dionne.) He also said that he doesn't like anyone changing his melodies, but that on Aretha's version, it also came out better. Personally, I think they're both great but that Aretha's version is definitely more soulful.
With both of these songs, you can see how important an arrangement is and how much difference it can make. Burt talks about "Close To You" on "Rehearsals.com".

Super arranger-conductor Artie Butler arranged one of the best versions, I think, of "Close to You" for Ken Berry and a most wonderful version of "I'll Never Fall In Love Again" for Mark Lindsay. Artie Butler, great arranger-conductor!
Then, there's Nick De Caro's sensitive, beautiful arrangement of "The Look of Love" for Claudine Longet.

Steveo, Thank you for the kind words on behalf of both Artie Butler (that man must be some kind of a genius!) and the very much missed Nick De Caro. Both worked so hard to create musical settings that brought out the the best of the vocalists they worked with, with glorious musical arrangements that enhanced and contributed much to our love of music. A big thank you to those responsible for this wonderful site and all the hard work that brings so much joy to us Burt Bacharach fans. The arrangers list is informative and just plain interesting! Thank you Steveo.
