This version has very scarce backing. So i prefer the album version

Although "(Theme From) Valley Of The Dolls" was composed by Dory & Andre Previn (not BB/HD as many believe) - the Scepter Records hit single and album version was conducted by Burt Bacharach and arranged by Pat Williams. While interesting because of the varying lyric and nearly acappella vocal by Dionne - I suspect that the Scepter recording would have been even more commercially successful had it been a part of the movie's credits as seen in the video clip above.

By the way - Dionne performed this song impeccably at the Kodak Theater with full orchestra as part of her 45th Anniversary Tribute. Her performance was so good and true to her recorded original that it was like travelling back in time to the 1968 recording session at A&R Studios!
