Glenn Campbell lesser known song

Post by geoff85 »

Saw a program on PBS about Glenn. I always thought he should have worked with Bacharach even tho he did good to link up with Webb more than once and create some of the best easy listening country songs i have ever heard. Here is the song true grit from the John Wayne movie with the same name.

I always liked this utterly unknown single that (as far as I know) never appeared on an album. It should have done much better on the charts.

Written by David Paich (a member of Toto and son of the great arranger, Marty Paich), here's another favorite of mine, "Houston":

I see that Jimmy Webb, the famous "easy listening country" songwriter mentioned at the top of this thread, turns 70 today. As all of us of a 'certain age' would surely agree, time certainly does fly:

Here`s a little-known song from one of JW`s criminally un-produced musicals (Tuxedo?)
I wish there were another recording since I`m not a big Feinstein fan, but this will have to do until either Webb himself or Tony Bennett gets around to it: https://youtu.be/kGgULGm_9NE

I remember the first time I heard Rosemary Clooney's very poignant recording of 'Time Flies' I thought the song was destined to become a standard. Well, over twenty years later that still hasn't happened and in fact there have only been two or three further recordings. I can only begin to imagine Webb's frustration at writing a song as beautiful as this and for it not to get the recognition it deserves and, sadly, it does rather sum-up his post 60s career.

I heard this song many years ago and never forgot it.
Formerly a hit for 'Gary Puckett & The Union Gap'...
I've always loved Glen's version.
