Yes, it was played on BBC Radio 2's Sounds of the 60s a couple of weeks ago. I've got it on one of the first of the collections of rare Bacharach material released in the mid-90s. Although not a natural Bacharach interpreter, Cliff Richard's half dozen or so recordings of BB songs are mostly excellent.

Thanks for the link. Cliff singing 'Everyone Needs Someone to Love', one of only three recordings of the song, is a real rare gem and I was lucky enough to stumble on it purely by chance in the mid-70s when rooting about in a box of old records in a charity shop. I didn't then and still don't routinely buy Cliff Richard records but this particular LP had the composer credits next to the song titles, so I quickly handed over my 50p. In fact the album contained another Bacharach and David gem, 'Through the Eyes of a Needle', so I was very happy when I left the shop. According to the cover notes, both these tracks and the rest of the album were recorded during a visit to New York in 1965.

Yes. Cliff started in 1958 (when he was only 18) and is still having a good career
(BTW, I started the first Cliff forum, in the form of a mailing list, way back in 1995)

About the "sweet and lovely voice", yes he's one of the artists who
has gone through 3 main eras (as far as his singing voice is concerned):
1. 1958 - 1962 (voice being a bit thin and boyish)
2. 1963 - 1967 (the most sweet and lovely voice, perfect for singing ballads
and those Bacharach's songs discussed in this thread belong to this era)
3. 1968 - present - An entirely different one which is coarser and he has changed to
sing more contemporary songs incl. the rock and roll (the one which
he broke into the USA charts was 1976 Devil Woman)

In answer to blueonblue's question, no, Bacharach had nothing to do with either recording or any other Cliff Richard session for that matter, although each track's arrangement, with both flugalhorn and alto sax to the fore, were obviously heavily influenced by Bacharach. I hope to have at least one name by tomorrow.

I tried to download the last entry posted by blueonblue and it is not available due to "term violations". Around a year ago Sir Cliff Richard released an album entitled "Duets" which features a beautiful version of "Anyone Who Had A Heart" in which, of course, Dionne duets with him. I can't find the CD at the stores so maybe I'll order it from Borders or somewhere. Dionne never sounded better! If someone can find it and add it to this thread I'm sure all of us will be much appreciative.

Bob Morgan was the producer for the New York sessions in '65 from which both 'Everyone Needs Someone to Love' and 'Through the Eye of a Needle' came. As for Cliff's recording of 'Look in my Eyes, Maria' from the same year, I don't know but as it was almost certainly cut in London I should imagine it was arranged and produced by Norrie Paramor, using Jay and the Americans' original recording as a template.
