Thanks for posting this. I spent many an hour of my youth listening to The Smiths. Morrissey is a great singer, and does the vocal justice here. Like kd lang, another genius singer, he's spent long, long stretches of his career singing rather forgettable material (from a musical perspective--the lyrics are always sui generis), but back in the 1990s I often wondered what he'd sound like on an album of carefully chosen and produced covers just like this. Alas, that will probably never happen. Even on this tune, the rhythm section sounds canned and it comes off a bit like very well done karaoke. He is what he is, and his fans love him for it.
