Traincha Sings The Burt Bacharach Songbook Vol III

Post by Marcel »

Yesterday Traincha was host on a talk show in the Netherlands. This Friday she will sing songs from Burt Bacharach with The Metropole Orchestra on the North Sea Jazz In Rotterdam. Traincha will do some old stuff from her earlier 2 Burt Bacharach albums from 2006 and 2007. The great news that she had was that on the 17th of September the third album with Burt Bacharach will be realeased. She is also doing some new material from this album on the North Sea Jazz.

Kind Regards,
Marcel :D

It's very welcome news to hear that Trijntje Oosterhuis is releasing her third album of Bacharach material. It will be fascinating to discover what her selections are this time around and whether she's included any of his more recent songs.

See the link below for some details regarding the new album's contents. Entitled 'Everchanging Times', it seems that the majority of the choices are a mixture of the well known and not so well known songs from Bacharach's collaborations with Hal David and Carole Bayer Sager. However, two songs from the stage musical 'Some Lovers' are included, 'Every Other Hour' and 'A Thousand Things That Were You', and although the singer Karima recorded 'Every Other Hour' in Italian in 2009 under the title 'Come In Ogni Ora' and cut it again as a duet with Mario Biondi singing his part in English, it appears that the version on the new Trijntje Oosterhuis album is the first studio recording of the song sung exclusively in English.

Some surprises there and in fact only three or four of the choices are what I'd call predictable. I'm especially looking forward to hearing her interpretations of Every Other Hour, Be Aware, A Thousand Things That Were You and I Still Have That Other Girl.

Although these three (3) albums contain beautiful renditions of some of Burt's most memorable compositions, and not to discredit the producer and\or arranger of them, I very much would have preferred Burt's arrangements and productions on each and every song. Hoping that if there's a 4th installment that Burt would grace it with producing and arranging it! That would be the icing on the cake.

Bruce, if you've already heard all of volume 3 then I think you have the advantage over the rest of us. There's been a hiatus of some fourteen years between volumes 2 and 3 and just supposing for the sake of whimsy that the same amount of time elapsed before a 4th volume appeared it would mean that Burt would then be aged 107! Although he probably baulks at the prospect, I would have thought by then that he would have long since discovered what Doctor Johnson called the soft obscurities of retirement with the days of writing arrangements and producing records but a distant memory.

Here's Trijntje Oosterhuis with Gregory Porter and 'Making Love'. It's hard to believe but this song that Bacharach co-wrote with Carole Bayer Sager and Bruce Roberts is now almost forty years old:
