Even though he was very much his own man with his own unique musical 'voice', one or two of his scores betray a possible Bacharach influence. I have 'blue' to thank for introducing me to this and so much of Morricone's wonderful music.

I felt absolutely gutted when I heard the news. There's so many but this is a personal favourite theme of his.

In the last twenty months we've lost composers of the stature of Francis Lai, Michel Legrand, Johnny Mandel and now Ennio Morricone, all utterly irreplaceable.

Morricone was a Master at blending music and imagery, here's his love theme from 'La tenda rossa' ('The Red Tent')

I can't imagine how any fan of Bacharach's music could not love this beguiling and excuisitely orchestrated piece by Morricone.
