This song seems sadly appropriate for our current predicament....

Blue, I think I might, just might, prefer BJ Thomas's recording of that song to Rex Harrison's ever so polite version.

Looking at the list published on the net of the most listened to tracks over the past five or six weeks there definitely seems to be a tendency towards the maudlin and the 'uplifting' with irony only getting the occasional look-in. I searched in vain on the list for this song about the joys and possible consequences of wine drinking.

Paul,
I seem to remember Rex singing (talking it) on a 'Bacharach TV Special' ?

blue, yes he did and the TV special from 1972 was entitled 'Burt Bacharach: Close To You'. Rex Harrison also sort of duetted with Bacharach on 'I'll Never Fall In Love Again'. The other guests were Isaac Hayes and Cilla Black.

Paul,
You're absolutely right, it also included Sir Rex's almost surreal rendition of 'If I Could Go Back'...happy day's !

Greetings,

About the song "Everybody's Out Of Town", I always missed the performace by Dianne Warwick, which would certainly wonderful.
Below, two other interpretations, 1th) by Robert Goulet and 2th) by Pete Moore and Orchestra:
