Which version do you prefer? Serene Dominic argues the melody works better with words, but I think I prefer the drama of Burt's original instrumental.

For good measure, here's Mike Patton's version from the great Great Jewish Music.

It was one of those "after-the-fact" constructions as a song (like "Where There`s a Heartache' cobbled together from "Come Touch the Sun.") It was conceived as an instrumental and should have been left that way.

It has to be Burt's "Instrumental" for me.

I think that She's Gone Away sounds so much better without words tacked onto it. I also think that Come Touch The Sun, Nikki and the theme to Casino Royale work better without lyrics.

No, the music and the words just aren't a natural fit. You've got to hand it to Ed Ames for recording not one but two albums of Bacharach and David material. He's still around at the age of 92, bless him.

I agree with BLue, it's best as an instrumental...and Burts arrangement on his Make it Easy On Yourself album is genius!
