New album in 2020?

Some months back an article was posted here that supposedly suggested an album of new material slated for release in the coming year. I recall skimming the piece but apparently missed the mention. Does anyone recall it or have any more recent information?

Blair, there was an article including an interview with Bacharach published in the Guardian this May which stated that there was new material set for release this year but which didn't go into specifics.

I hate to start the new year on a downer but judging by his comments in recent years regarding the state of the recording industry I don't think we should expect a new album any time soon, if at all. I'll be delighted beyond words if he proves me wrong, but I won't be holding my breath.

Sara, that has been my assumption too for quite a while. I was surprised to read the hint that he may be reconsidering.
I`ve never quite understood his position given that many other top-shelf artists not known for their indifference to profit (notably, Paul Simon) continued to record and release music in the CD format long after the "streaming revolution."
Maybe Burt should ask Paul for some tips on how to proceed.

I suppose the big difference, Blair, is that even in the age of streaming Paul Simon is still capable of selling upward of 100,000 copies of a new release, something that is way beyond the potential for a new Bacharach album. I know that Burt has stated more than once that he no longer relishes the prospect of spending months in the studio on a project that the record company then fails to promote properly and which the sales figures struggle even to cover the cost of the album's production.

Of course there was a time back in the mid-60s through to the early 70s that a Bacharach album could sell 100,000 copies in the UK alone. Two of his albums, Hitmaker and Portrait In Music, went Top 5 in the UK album charts, the latter hanging around the charts for several months. I'm not sure if 'Portrait' was exclusively a British release but this excellent 14 track album compiled from the first three A&M releases, Reach Out, Make It Easy On Yourself and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, seemed to be in every home in the early 70s, mine included (my mother was a Bacharach admirer) and it was the first album of his I became familiar with. To this day I still occasionally see the famous gatefold sleeve cover in charity shops and at car boot sales. Here's the back cover with the track details:

The Portraits album was released around `74 in the US with the more pedestrian title, Greatest Hits.
What was never released in the US until its inclusion on the Something Big set was the first live album on A&M. I could never figure out why.

A&M never did issue a second "hits" collection under any title in the US and were happy to allow all of his albums to go out of print shortly after Woman bombed commercially. Of course, the early `80s was also the early CD era, but Burt`s albums weren`t re-issued in that form until...honestly, I can`t recall; but it seemed a very long time. Many still hadn`t been given an independent re-issue when Something Big came along. I`m too lazy to check right now, but I suspect that Futures and Woman are likely still unavailable individually here. Needless to add, Japanese imports have always been available for the usual Japanese import prices.

Looking at the song credits on the back cover of the 'Portrait In Music' album I was reminded of the glaring error I eventually picked up on after having owned the album for several years. Anyone else spot the error?

The title of "What the World Needs Now" has been extended by two words.

No, it's not that. Hal David is mistakenly credited as the co-writer of 'Any Day Now' instead of Bob Hilliard.
