In The Darkest Place

This is a favorite from Painted From Memory. Something that has always bothered me about the structure of the song though is how the "I only have to tell myself that by now you could be with someone else" piece is not repeated in the second chorus. For me this is maybe the best section of the song so why would they jump straight to "Do your friends come around....." after the 2nd verse ? It leaves me feeling short-changed. Any ideas ? (Apologies if I asked this already...)
