BB performed in a pub in SW London

Post by pljms »

For those of us who are partial to a beer or three with our live music and who live in the London area, next Sunday the 15th singer Helen Theophanous is performing her 'Sings Bacharach' show at a lunchtime gig at the Bull's Head in Barnes. I can't say I know much about her other than that her song choices are not always predictable (Any Day Now, Arthur's Theme) and that she uses a trio of top quality jazz musicians.

I can't think of a better way of spending a Sunday afternoon and thanks for the info.

The Bull's Head has long been famous as a venue for live jazz and I must have attended more than two hundred gigs there over the last twenty years or so. It's a five minute stroll from The Rising Sun, a pub a certain Jimmy Webb has been known to frequent along with other famous musicians as it's just around the corner from Olympic Studios.

Martin, how does it work in the Jazz Room - are there tables, food, reservations?

nowmedical, you can book tickets in advance online but not tables. You can also pay at the door. As for food, you can only eat in the pub's dining room next door. The music room is small and so to increase the seating capacity there!s usually no tables, especially when they know it's going to be busy. As for drinks, they can only be purchased in the pub's main bar but can be taken into the music room. Sunday afternoon gigs start at 2.30 and go onto around 5pm including a half hour interval.

I did seem to be this site's sole representative at the gig and enjoyed it for no other reason than for the pleasure of hearing jazz musicians of the quality of pianist/arranger Geoff Castle, tenor saxophonist/flautist Kelvin Christiane and bassist Paul Morgan given plenty of solo room and really getting their teeth into no less.than seventeen Bacharach classics.
