Okay, he`s a good - not great - lyricist, but you could have spared yourself a lot of time and trouble by pointing out that he was responsible for this lovely song which I loved from the moment I heard it and still return to YouTube to recall:

I was actually going to begin my post with that song because that's how I discovered him but I didn't know your tastes well enough to risk it. Some people would call it cheap pop candy but it's really a beautiful song.

Cheap pop candy is defined by predictable melodies; lyrics to beautiful melodies can be as trite as these (and - heresy - many of Hal David`s) and work!

Rupert Holmes is very well known for his 2007 Drama Desk award winning book for Broadway musical curtains and yes he is the best lyricist as his lyrics are so good to make best broadway shows .
