Two new Bacharach-related releases...

Post by nymusicalsguy »

Hey all,

Just a heads-up about two recent releases (one on CD, one digital) which might be of interest...

Germany's Jazz Club series (an imprint of Universal Music) has recently compiled WIR LIEBEN BACHARACH, a collection of German-language versions of Bacharach songs including some you might not expect such as "Hasbrook Heights," "Paper Mache" and "The Green Grass Starts to Grow." More details here:

In addition, Dave Clark has finally reissued his TIME: THE ALBUM, albeit only as a digital download. Both Burt and Dionne participated in this star-filled 1985 concept album of Clark's musical. And so Burt and Dionne's performance of "Within My World" is finally commercially available again, as well as Dionne's "What On Earth":

Enjoy!

Thanks for the info. The German language CD looks like the most interesting new Bacharach compilation in quite some time.

I had "Time" on vinyl when it was first released but, as usual, it was lost along the way. Is there a chance it could be released on CD? The two (2) songs by Dionne were a tour-de-force and my co-Dionne fans rushed out and bought the 2-record set after hearing it. I wish like hell there would be a CD release of Dionne's other obscure recordings such as "Love's Hiding Place" from the motion picture "The Seduction" starring Morgan Fairchild, the theme from "Valley Of The Dolls II", the Polydor Import duet she did with Paul Anka, the digitally-recorded duet with Tom Jones entitled "Endless Love", the theme from both "Solid Gold" and "The Rich and Famous", "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" from the motion picture "Thunderball", etc. Long live the CD!

The 2 DW Tracks from "Time" are available as downloads through iTunes. I bought them yesterday for 1.29€ each.

I received the German language CD the other day and I thinks it's terrific. It's curious how listening to these songs in a different language can often make you spot things in the melodies that maybe you'd started taking for granted or just weren't 'hearing' any more due to over familiarity. All the recordings are from between '65 and '73 and most of the arrangements adhere pretty closely to Bacharach's originals. The featured vocalists are fine but it's a shame that Marian Maerz isn't included, particularly her version of 'Geh Vorbei' (Walk on By).

There is a whole CD out "Marion Maerz: Bacharach Songbook" that includes "Geh Vorbei".

And than there is Dionne's charming German language version, too.

And another rare find: In the deutsche version of "Casino Royale" Dusty's "The Look Of Love" was replaced by a German-language version "Ein Blick von Dir" sung by Mireille Mathieu.

Speaking of "foreign language" Bacharach/David and Springfield, here's Dusty's version of Wishin' & Hopin' in Italian...
