I saw the movie 'Mirror Mask' last night and I was surprised when I heard this on the soundtrack:

I thought that this might have been posted here before but if it has I can't find it. Overall I like this version of 'Any Old Time Of The Day' by the curiously named Leslie Uggams.

We've discussed 'Any Old Time Of The Day' quite a bit on here and the general consensus was that Bacharach didn't put enough emphasis on the "Call me and I'll be there" refrain on the original recording by Dionne Warwick. Stan Getz obviously thought along the same lines because his version puts it centre stage of the tune, to the extent he dispenses with the bridge all together:

This is one from Ennio Morricone I hadn't heard before it came up on my Spotify Discover Weekly.
I know the classics but beyond those, where do you start exploring his massive back catalog ?
Even the blind squirrel sometimes finds a nut !

Yes she's lip-syncing but this is the first time I've seen Bobbie Gentry perform her UK no.1 hit version of 'I'll Never Fall In Love Again'. By the time this first charted in the early autumn of 1969 the song had already been a hit on Broadway for several months but Bobbie Gentry's recording was the first time I'd heard the song and I remember immediately being beguiled by the melody. 'Promises, Promises' started its London run that same autumn and Bobbie Gentry was there on the opening night as was Bacharach who famously took over the production's soundboard.

Italian film composer Piero Piccioni seemed very influenced by Bacharach.
Here are a couple of examples...

I know the song 'Long Ago Tomorrow' is a favourite of quite a few on this forum and here's a new version that's just been posted on YouTube:

First time hearing this version. Most "soulful" Bacharach cover of all time?

I have a friend who has a special interest in music films from the 50s to thank for alerting me to Alan Dale's performance of 'I Cry More' in the movie 'Don't Knock The Rock' from 1956. I believe this was only the third or fourth Bacharach and David song to be recorded and was about as 'rock and roll' as they ever got. If it had been any more it would have probably brought Burt out in hives!

I don`t know - "My Little Red Book" and "Promise Her Anything" were, at least, rock-ish as was (for its time) "Another Night."
But, no, Burt and Hal were not known for their contribution to rock history.

Ah yes, 'Promise Her Anything'. This never used to do anything for me, now I really like it. The repeated guitar figure at the end makes me think of the Beatles.
