Burt -v- Sinatra

Post by nowmedical »

Burt's finest moments: listen carefully to exactly 1min 37 sec on:

Burt has softened and swerved this keychange from the original (cf. Something Big CD no 2) - Sheryl is a fraction late with it....

Burt played the Albert Hall in London in about 1998 without Dionne, backed by some session singers oh, and about a 20 piece orchestra. What do you think - this, or Sinatra live, is Nirvana?

The key change you refer to is indeed brilliant. It is part of the general design of the song as I recall...
This is one the things that makes Burt so brilliant...the key change is like a breath of fresh air..
In the clip you reference, I think I hear for a moment a major seventh
or major ninth chord instead of the major chord used on the Fifth Dimension's cut... but no matter, the impact is the same....a breath of fresh air.

Sheryl Crow

Never have been a big Sheryl Crow fan,,,, but she hit a home run with
Burts song. Also Wyonna's version of Anyone Who Had A Heart in the same concert is terrific.

One of my favorite tracks on that "One Amazing NIght" CD is "Always Something There to Remind Me," by - I think - a female group called All Saints. Whatever, they did a terrific job with it; lots of energy.

Hi Steve,
I agree, brilliant performances also from Wynonna, Luther Vandoss,
Ben Folds Five, Chrissie Hynde, Dionne and an incredible rendition of
"God Give Me Strength" by Elvis Costello.......must be the greatest
song of the nineties !!!................and a beautiful version of "Alfie"
by Burt himself.....best song of all time ???
