Re: Be Aware

No, I've yet to see or hear her explain why the recording wasn't released at the time and why it's taken fifty years for it to finally see the light of day.

Here it is as it sounds on the new album released today.

Re: Be Aware

Apparently in the new album's liner notes Streisand states that not only did she commission the song from Bacharach and David for her to sing on Burt's TV special, she also made the specification that it be primarily about child poverty and homelessness.

Re: Jimmy Webb performing on TV in 1968

The first time I saw Webb perform was in the early 70s when he was wearing his hippie look with the regulation shoulder length hair and big beard. It was on a BBC TV In Concert show and when he performed a few of his famous songs from the 60s it was a bit like 'Jimmy Webb sings the hits of Jim Webb ...

Re: Traincha Sings The Burt Bacharach Songbook Vol III

Bruce, if you've already heard all of volume 3 then I think you have the advantage over the rest of us. There's been a hiatus of some fourteen years between volumes 2 and 3 and just supposing for the sake of whimsy that the same amount of time elapsed before a 4th volume appeared it would mean that ...

Re: Traincha Sings The Burt Bacharach Songbook Vol III

Some surprises there and in fact only three or four of the choices are what I'd call predictable. I'm especially looking forward to hearing her interpretations of Every Other Hour, Be Aware, A Thousand Things That Were You and I Still Have That Other Girl.

Re: Traincha Sings The Burt Bacharach Songbook Vol III

It's very welcome news to hear that Trijntje Oosterhuis is releasing her third album of Bacharach material. It will be fascinating to discover what her selections are this time around and whether she's included any of his more recent songs.

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

It was Tony Hatch's 82nd birthday yesterday and the DJ on the local radio station played several of his best known songs plus a Petula Clark single from the late 60s that must have completely passed me by at the time. It has a great arrangement by Tony Hatch and I'm surprised it wasn't a hit in the ...

Re: Bacharach TV Special From 1972

Very enjoyable and one of my favourites of all the specials. Anthony Newley, Sammy Davis Jr and Vikki Carr were the perfect guests for this type of show and they even carry off the obviously scripted banter with aplomb! I see that Jack Parnell was the MD for the show and he was well known in the UK ...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

Tony Hatch's orchestral version of his most famous song starts off quietly but it eventually captures some of the excitement of his arrangement for Petula Clark's hit recording.

Re: How many songs are composed by Burt to present day?

I presume the term "song" means this thread is only concerned with anything with lyrics attached to it? I only ask because if you go onto YouTube you'll see everything called a "song" these days, even symphonies and concertos! It sometimes seems to me that the only things not cal...

Re: To Wait For Love

A very enjoyable listen and thanks for posting on the forum. I've often wondered what Bacharach thought of Jackie DeShannon's very different interpretation of the song which featured quite an upbeat arrangement by Arthur Wright and with some melodic and harmonic alterations. I'm sure he was absolute...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

I seem to recall reading somewhere that "Promise Her Anything" was given that guitar riff as a wink at the Beatles` "Daytripper." Maybe a bit of a stretch but plausible, I guess. Yes, or 'I Feel Fine'. I somehow remembered 'Fender Mender' by The Celestials from the 'On The Flip ...

Ah yes, 'Promise Her Anything'. This never used to do anything for me, now I really like it. The repeated guitar figure at the end makes me think of the Beatles.

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

I have a friend who has a special interest in music films from the 50s to thank for alerting me to Alan Dale's performance of 'I Cry More' in the movie 'Don't Knock The Rock' from 1956. I believe this was only the third or fourth Bacharach and David song to be recorded and was about as 'rock and rol...

Re: Bacharach at the London Palladium, 2016

Here's Norma Jean Martine's studio version of 'I'm Still Here' from her album entitled 'Only In My Mind'. The song does have one or two killer chord changes. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QwZTzSpupHs I've had this song in my head ever since I first heard it a couple of days ago, although it's a sha...
