Zylon, This is a piece of trivia that has been bugging me for years also.. Back in the day of these type of recordings...ones that featured choruses for Roger Williams, Burt Bacharach, David Terry, Henry Mancini, etc. a contractor would hire a vocal group such as THe Johnny Mann Singers, or The Jimm...

Steve, Many composers write out what they call a "sketch"...a 4 staff unit that is pretty complete...with all of the brass parts, string parts, etc. all of the sections...written as globs of chords (in other words not like a full score from Beethoven, but a condensed score.) Rest assured t...

The key change you refer to is indeed brilliant. It is part of the general design of the song as I recall... This is one the things that makes Burt so brilliant...the key change is like a breath of fresh air.. In the clip you reference, I think I hear for a moment a major seventh or major ninth chor...

Regarding Burt playing the piano on recording sessions, I don't believe there was a time when he did or did not decide to play..basically, he had his piano men..(usually 2 at the same time) such as in "Walk On By"(Dionne-1964) this is a Spector concept, but it was well orchestrated by Burt...

Lizard Licks his Eyeballs

A line from a Burt ditty from the Geico commercial...I'm wondering if Burt completed this tune....or if it is just fragmented....I'm sure the lyrics are probably incomplete..I'm wondering if he wrote a complete melody for it.

CC,

Burt used to close his show with that(All Kinds Of People)......in the early 70's -great number with euphonium solo in it (it's kind of like a low horn)
The curtains would slowly close over a long last chord of this song..with the harp glissandoing over it all. It was dynamic!

BB4Life, You're welcome..rarely is one affecfted so much by music that one must investigate the source of it...such is the case with Burt... He is one of 3 composers who have affected me in a big way over my lifetime. Ironically another one is a man Burt recently wrote with, Brian Wilson, who was my...
