I've actually been a big fan of Christgau for a long time, but GehVorbei is right on the money in calling him a "r 'n r establishment type." He has a well defined ideology of rock that he measures everything against, and a good portion of that ideology comprises his perception of rebelliou...

Some of the lyrics are obviously Bacharach speaking in his own voice, as when he's referencing "What the World Needs Now" or talking about his children, but I would strongly suspect most of the other lyrics were written entirely by Tonio K. with Burt's blessing. Tonio K. is no Hal David an...

Thanks for keeping us up-to-date on this issue, Rio.

One expensive fix to this problem might be to switch to Macintosh. As far as I know, Sony BMG's "root kit" affects only the Windows OS; I had no problem importing At This Time into iTunes on my iBook.

At This Time on vinyl now available

There's been a lot of requests for info on the vinyl edition of At This Time. Burt's publicist just let me know that the album version is now available for purchase at the Sony Music Store.

I don't think "enhanced" necessarily means copy protected. Generally, "enhanced" is used to describe CDs that include multimedia such as images or videos. I've bought quite a few "enhanced" CDs that are not copy protected to the best of my knowledge.

I'm here! All the traffic in the wake of Burt's political comments pushed the site over its monthly bandwidth allotment, which is ordinarily an easily fixable problem. The problem was my Web host resides in Florida and had evacuated for Hurricane Wilma, so he was without power or email access and un...

The "master" only has Internet access for a couple of hours a day (we still don't have gas service and high-speed Internet access is still weeks away), so it may take 24 hours or more for me to remove an inappropriate posting. When threads get long--4 pages or more--it's difficult for me t...

Thanks, Vincent. I should add that this article was linked to on Drudge Report, hence the spike in pro-Bush, anti-Bacharach comments today. And to those pro-Bush, anti-Bacharach posters: If you have a strong opinion, feel free to express it, but please refrain from using profanity, epithets or incen...

I suspect Burt's comments were posted on a conservative website or blog and readers were encouraged to voice their opinions on what they thought was his official website. I also received quite a few angry emails intended for Burt at my webmaster@bacharachonline.com email address. I'm pretty sure tha...

Burt and politics

I'd like to make two points. First of all, this board is to discuss all topics related to Burt Bacharach. I think it would be disingenuous to restrict posters from discussing Bacharach's recent comments regarding the handling of Hurricane Katrina, the Iraq War or President Bush, but I would ask that...

Updates to the main website are going to be sporadic over the next few months, so everyone please keep your ears open and post anything you hear about the new album here in the discussion forum. Hopefully, we can all keep each other informed.

Thanks for thinking of me. Laurie and I evacuated to Lafayette, La., to stay with relatives. We're safe and our families are safe. I have no idea whether our apartment is dry or under 15 feet of water, but at this stage the most important thing is to get relief to New Orleans. There are thousands of...
