Marty Paich also did a great swinging instrumental of "Promise Her Anything"...where is the Lyn Murray track from, Steve? This has to be one of Bacharach's least-covered compositions yet one of my favorites!

Since playing "Happy Is A Color" over & over again, I've been trying to figure out which Bacharach tunes it most reminds me of...I have that same sense of pastiche/deja vu, too, Mark! I know I've got "A Young Pretty Girl Like You" from PROMISES, PROMISES running through my he...

Along with Tom Jones' "Promise Her Anything", "My Little Red Book" (both in its Burt-produced Manfred Mann version and of course the Love cover) is definitely among Bacharach's most rocking compositions. Any others we'd think of as rock songs? (I believe Burt joked once about bei...

Hi Bill, Steve & co.!

Thanks for the Severinsen recommendation!

I'll be on the lookout for the album! It's called THE GREAT ARRIVAL and was on Command Records in '68; apparently it's not on CD, and there's also a cover of "Nikki" on there. Must be good stuff!

GREAT find, Steve! This one gets the prize for most exciting rarity in a long while! :-) Despite the 45 second length, it's VERY Bacharach. Too bad the show didn't take off & Jack Jones (a most underrated singer imho) didn't get to release this one officially, perhaps in an extended version. Joe

A little jazzy, bluesy Bacharach...

Here's 1959's "That Kind Of Woman", penned by Burt & Hal and recorded by the singer Joe Williams. Enjoy!

Streisand also does a remarkable version of "Be Aware" on the BB special and comments that BB & HD wrote it for her. Too bad she never released a studio version; anyone know if she ever recorded one? That said, Dionne's wonderful recording still remains, and Laura Nyro recorded a splen...

Wonderful clip, Steve! Here's a link to a brief but wonderful arrangement of "I'll Never Fall In Love Again" (intertwined with "All You Need Is Love" & "When I Fall In Love"!) performed by Jackie with none other than Andy Williams! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gE1...

"I Fell In Love..." is from the FUN LOVIN' LP (Mercury 21061); as far as I know, it wasn't released as a single. I tried to dig around for the original copyright date but I curiously couldn't get it to come up on the ASCAP or BMI databases. Hal David does list the tune (but with no date) o...

I Fell In Love With Your Picture...

Here's one from Burt's prime, though it hardly sounds like it -- 1965's "I Fell In Love With Your Picture", performed by Freddie & The Dreamers. I don't believe Burt had anything to do with the production/arrangement, though. Lyrics, of course, by Hal. Enjoy! http://download.yousendit....

It's my understanding that the balance of the songs (I believe it was announced they wrote at least two songs together; I've also heard that it may be as many as four) will be released whenever Burt and/or Brian releases another solo album. I guess for now we'll have to content ourselves with the wo...

For Keith...

Like so many of us on this board, I'm still reeling from the news of Keith's untimely passing. His kindness, generosity of spirit and willingness to share his knowledge of and passion for all things Bacharach won't be soon forgotten, I'm confident, by anyone who has had the pleasure to correspond wi...

This is devastating, unimaginable news...I'll always treasure my correspondence with Keith and his generosity as we shared Bacharach treasures between us and our extended family on this board...my thoughts & prayers are with the esteemed Mr. Burke's partner and family during this difficult time.

You're all very welcome! :-) And thanks for posting that interview -- fascinating! Just listened again to Keely's version back-to-back with the 5D's...no doubt her arrangement is similar to that used by the Fifth Dimension, but what I think Bob Alcivar & Bones Howe (arranger & producer, resp...

Hi, I don't believe Burt was responsible for the arrangement or production but I cannot check my 45 for accurate credits as it's not currently with me. Unfortunately, to my knowledge, it's never seen a CD release. However, here's the track for everyone to enjoy -- the original "One Less Bell To...
