This special has JUST been re-released by Time-Life DVD as THE BEST OF THE ANDY WILLIAMS SHOW; I haven't watched it from start-to-finish (and I hope that the segment you mention is indeed included) but when you "chapter skip" to Burt, the segment is a medley with Andy singing and Burt cond...

Unfortunately Tony & Jackie divorced after a number of years and his recording output isn't what it once was; but I continually hold out hope that this great talent (often hailed as the British Bacharach!) will, like Burt did in the 1990s and continuing to the present day, experience a late-care...

Now if only Burt and Brian would see fit to release the other songs from their collaboration that produced the wonderful "What Love Can Do". I believe, at the time, Burt mentioned co-writing three songs with Brian; I don't know if any of the others were recorded, or just written. But would...

Hey Dennis (& all)! The three songs you mention are actually cut songs from the Broadway production. "What Am I Doing Here?" was actually covered at the time by Eydie Gorme despite not making it to Broadway. The other cut songs that haven't materialized yet in any recorded form are &qu...

Manfred Mann's version is the one in the movie (Manfred actually recorded 2 versions, both of which are available on the now sadly out of print Ryko soundtrack to WHAT'S NEW PUSSYCAT, a film version & a single version) but Love definitely popularized the song to the classic rock crowd. The Manfr...

For those who haven't heard it, here's Burt's (indeed impassioned) take on "If I Could Go Back" from the LOST HORIZON demo. While the film was not a pleasant experience for Burt, his beautiful music written for it never ceases to bring a smile to my face, or in the case of "If I Could...

Tony Hatch...another one of the true greats of pop music, and someone who produced & arranged at least a few wonderful versions of Bacharach/David songs! (I was spinning his production of Petula Clark's "Saturday Sunshine" repeatedly just yesterday!) Wonder if the esteemed Mr. Hatch ha...

Marlene & Burt

Thought forum folk might like a heads-up about a very swell new release, MARLENE DIETRICH WITH THE BURT BACHARACH ORCHESTRA (Bureau B, bb07, 2007). It's on the Bureau B label out of Germany, and compiles 20 tracks from Dietrich's recordings with Burt from the Columbia, RCA & Philips labels. The ...

While I can't upload this to YouTube, here's Bobby Helms' "The Bell Who Couldn't Jingle", which is the song's first recorded version from 1957. I'm still trying to find Paul Evans' subsequent recording, which in turn was followed by the familiar Burt & Herb Alpert takes (both available...

Gotta Get A Girl!

Here's a 1961 rarity from the pen of Bacharach & David, produced by Jerry Ragovoy and performed by none other than Frankie Avalon:

I believe a gent by the name of Elio Isola wrote "Silent Voices" -- three other songwriters (translators, I assume?) are credited with Isola on Dionne's version, too. Jimmy Webb also arranged a smashing version for the post-Diana Ross Supremes in the 1970s.

Another unusual one from the Maestro...

Here's the vaguely beat-ish 1960 track "We're Only Young Once" performed by the Avons, and written by the team of Burt Bacharach and William Colby.

Got it! I believe Burt's sole contribution to the film was the title track, but I've gotta track it down to find how it's used in Murray's orchestral score. Of course, the song also appears on the terrific A-TOM-IC! JONES LP with that explosive cover shot! For other Bacharach soundtrack ephemera, I ...
