re: In the Style of Burt

Art, CK's performance of "Goin' Back" (and the arrangement) on the "Pearls" CD has a gentle wistfullness to it. Leave it to Dusty to inject it with the heartfelt soul she was so good at expressing. Hearing it at her funeral must have been overwhelming to those present. Do you hap...

re: This Song

Steve, I poked around Apple's iTunes just now and found that they have the Tony Hatch instrumentals "Music" and "Where Are You Now". They also have Jackie Trent's "When the Summertime is Over" and "Where Are You Now?". When I was on YouTube a few evenings ago,...

re: This Song

I did a little digging around (in my head and elsewhere) and finally came up with the name of the LP: "The Downtown Sound of Tony Hatch". Besides having instrumentals of various of his big hits, like "Downtown", etc, it had three songs I'd never heard before, which quickly became...

This Song

This was one of my very favorite songs back in the 1960s, though back then I only knew it as an instrumental arrangement on an LP that Tony Hatch released, featuring instrumentals of some of his hit songs. At that time I also marvelled at how much it sounded like Burt's writing. Compare it to Burt's...

Burt on TV (Upcoming)

I just saw an ad on one of my local PBS stations, Maryland Public TV Channel 22, that Burt will appear on a music special called "Chris Botti Live" this coming Monday evening (June 5th). Looks like a tribute to Botti with appearances by various other musicians, composers, etc. I don't know...

Re: On the Flip Side

Coincidentally, I just managed to buy a vinyl copy of "On the Flip Side" on eBay, and for only $5.99. When I saw the above posting last week, I did a quick check on eBay to see what BB merchandise they had, and there were two different sellers with vinyl "On the Flip Side" disks ...

How to Exchange the Copy-Protected 'At This Time" CD

I see that others have posted links to newspaper articles about exchanging the copy-protecte CDs for non-protected ones. But here is a link to a SONY website that contains the instructions and a form to include with the returned CD. http://www.upsrow.com/sonybmg/ If you bought from Amazon.com, they ...

Dionne Warwick Album Downloads

I just noticed that Apple's iTunes now has about 10 of Dionne Warwick's albums available. Until recently, they carried only two or three of her non-David/Bacharach ones. Currently listed are: Anyone Who Had a Heart Here Where There Is Love Here I Am I'll Never Fall in Love Again Windows of the World...

"What's New, Pussycat" DVD

Just a reminder that the "What's New, Pussycat" DVD is now available, and at bargain prices of around $10. DeepDiscountDVD has it for about $9.50 and free shipping. I got mine last weekend and couldn't wait to see it. "What's New, Pussycat" came out in the 1960s, after I was alre...

Re: A Better Man

This song is one of my favorite BB/HD compositions as well, and Humperdink's voice and style suit it very nicely. I've always thought it had a lot more potential than it manifested with the public. To my ear, it has always sounded a bit rushed. The melody is very long (as others have noted) and the ...

"Re: A Massive Burt Fan, She Said.

For anyone in the Washington DC area, Erin will be performing at a club called Iota, in Arlington VA tomorrow, March 12. Her website just says that the performance will be a "matinee". Iota's website says 3:00 pm with a $12 cover. Free parking in a municipal garage at 3033 Wilson Blvd. Iot...

Elusive Bacharach/Bop Connection

I've also been of the opinion that Burt absorbed influences from be-bop, jazz, and elsewhere, but when he wrote his own music the influences all got transformed into his own unique musical language. But listen to his extended orchestral arrangement of "Wives and Lovers" on one of his early...

Something Big CD Set

Walter, I noticed yesterday that eBay had a copy of the "Something Big" Bacharach collection selling for $40, about half its retail price. This might be a way for you to get a lot of the material you are seeking in one fell swoop and at a very reasonable price.

What's New Pussycat on DVD

I notice that Amazon.com now has a listing for "What's New Pussycat" on DVD. It says that the studio hasn't released it on DVD yet, but if you give Amazon.com an email address, they will notify you when it becomes available. They also say they forward requests to the studios, so signing up...

re: A Girl Called Eddy

Let me add my praise to Erin Moran's "A Girl Called Eddy" CD. I bought it a few months ago and I can't get enough of it. There's not a weak song on the disk. I've listened to this CD so many times by now, and like the best of Hal & Burt I still can't get these songs out of my head. Her...
