Re: Burt Bacharach that are not recognizeable

There are multi-disc sets of songs that Burt wrote before settling into his trademark "style". Only after taking control of the recording sessions for Dionne and discovering that she could sing anything that he could imagine did his own imagination soar giving us what we know today. Come ...

Burt Bacharach that are not recognizeable

Every now and then Burt detoured from his regular formula causing a song to be completely lacking his trademark sound. I would have never known this was Bacharach/David tune.

Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach

From the booklet to the cd, "The Complete Columbia Singles" by Mark Lindsay, written by Ed Osborne... "Artie [Butler] freely acknowledges the influence of Bacharach/David who'd created their own sub-genre of pop song with rythmically, melodically, and lyrically exciting material for ...

Re: most beautiful haunting melodies you ever heard?

Well, Geoff !:)) I guess I am a little beside the genré but Sibelius "Valse Triste" from "Death" represents my view of a hauntingly beautiful tune ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ls8-pk4IS4 Cheers Dani It is tranquil and peaceful. For me it is lacking in richness and dark tone...

Re: Burt Bacharach/ David collabs with other Brill composers

Phil Spector has spoken about how much he was influenced by Jerry and Mike while interning for them. I wonder if Burt picked up a thing or two from them and added it to his already genius ability. I like to think of 0:50 to 0:55 of Nicki as a homage to Jerry and Mike. Am i grasping at straws? https:...

Re: Omg I cant believe Burt Bacharach didnt write this

I think a lot of posters are going a little overboard here as well as on the "haunting" topic. After all, we`re not looking for forgeries here. Nevertheless, here`s a nice Burt-inflected song from Carly Simon: http://youtu.be/jypWPiDyqP8 Overboard??? Lol. Why? That Carly Simon song gives ...

Re: most beautiful haunting melodies you ever heard?

Raindrops is easily considered beautiful but i would love to know what you think makes it haunting? It has a bit of a jig to it and almost sounds happy go lucky in parts. September is a full on dance song that i hear at weddings and parties all the time. What about it is haunting you? I am intrigue...

Re: most beautiful haunting melodies you ever heard?

Dear geoff85, Great topic! There are many wonderful songs that haunted the World of Music and here are a few among many that deal with my emotions: Abraham's Theme (Vangelis) "Chariots of Fire" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzF9uTtdZuI Everybody's Talkin' (Song by Fred Neil - Perfomed by...

Re: Burt Bacharach/ David collabs with other Brill composers

if youre talking about that jingling effect it is most probably the triangle...used on a lot of recordings as well as some of Burt's. Steveo Thanks Steveo. There is also another lieber/stoller instrument that has a vibraphone quality to it, the one from Spanish Harlem that is used in alot of their ...

Re: most beautiful haunting melodies you ever heard?

You cant talk about haunting and beautiful without leaving out leaving out Karen Carpenter. We've only just begun and Rainy Days and Mondays are pretty haunting as well as her version of Superstar.

Re: most beautiful haunting melodies you ever heard?

For beautiful and haunting melodies, it just doesn't get any better than this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptBXc4F5M3o It's played over the last scene in the movie "Cinema Paradiso." Not a dry eye in the entire theatre. I loe Enrico Morricone however I am not sure I get what the bi...

Re: Burt Bacharach/ David collabs with other Brill composers

I find Cliff Richard's version to be closer to what Burt wanted the song to be rather than Jay and the American's version. Just a guess on my part. Maybe it's because I like Cliff's version more. Burt wrote a few hits with Bob Hilliard. Was Bob Hilliard a Brill Building songwriter? Bacharach/Hillar...

most beautiful haunting melodies you ever heard?

I always thought this song( Flow by Transistor) that was a staple in alot of 90's teen flicks was very haunting but equally beautiful. I heard it first when I was like 11 or so and even at a young age I was drawn to these dark but serene melodies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogA2gxwy82E. Also Ne...
