Re: Story Behind the Song: Raindrops Keep Fallin'

Here's an example of how BJ Thomas would probably have sung Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head on the original recording if Bacharach hadn't prevented him from adding those grace notes in two or three places. Taken from British TV's Top Of The Pops in January 1970. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4TO7z...

Re: R.I.P. Chick Corea

I too was saddened to hear this news. I saw him play live a few times and there was a warmth to him that was less evident with some of his more self regarding contemporaries in the jazz world. I've long been very fond of this short and melodic piano improvisation of his. https://m.youtube.com/watch?...

Re: "Ready Steady Burt!"

If Bacharach wasn't a household name in the UK already in the summer of 1964 when he appeared on Ready Steady Go he wasn't far off it, especially once he'd had a hit single and a best-selling album under his own name. Like all hip and happening shows Ready Steady Go was too hot not to cool down, to ...

Re: Bacharach Baroque by The Renaissance (complete album)

This album is completely new to me and although it's light and frothy I found it a joy to listen to, as refreshing as the first cup of coffee of the day.

It took a few listens but I really love this song. I'd also like to hear someone else sing it.

Re: Blue Umbrella with 2 bonus tracks

I think '21st Century Man' is a beguiling gem and the old Bacharach trait of the repeated motif fade ending featuring the flugelhorn and strings wouldn't have sounded out of place on one of his A&M albums from the late 60s and early 70s. As for 'A Quiet Place', although it's an enjoyable listen ...

The video has been uploaded onto YouTube again, this time with the text of the lyrics of the song's chorus but, alas, not the two verses.

Re: The Great Divide

Those are seriously good musicians and after many years of being familiar with their names through the credits on CD sleeves it's a pleasure to actually watch them in the studio making that song come alive.

Re: 'Blue Umbrella'..'We Go Way Back'...'Whistling in the Dark' ..'Bacharach / Tashian

Burt and Daniel have mentioned in interviews the possibility of an album, let's hope so, their collaboration shows truly great promise ! 'blue' I concur wholeheartedly and I wonder if the term 'shows truly great promise' has ever been used in connection with a 92 year old before? 'We Go Way Back' d...

Re: 'Midnight Watch' ...new Bacharach / Tashian song.

To my knowledge, no one has yet to record a 'Sings the Songs of Bacharach and Bayer Sager' album and I can't imagine that anyone ever will, despite them writing, with the help and assistance at various times of Peter Allen, Christopher Cross, Neil Diamond and Bruce Roberts, several US Top 40 hits. ...

I can't imagine how any fan of Bacharach's music could not love this beguiling and excuisitely orchestrated piece by Morricone.

Once I'd heard 'Bells of St. Augustine' a few times I felt the urge to share the song with family and friends. I don't feel the same urge with 'Midnight Watch'.

Re: Johnny Mandel 1925 - 2020

His score for the movie 'I Want To Live' from the late 50s was very jazzy and featured baritone sax virtuoso Gerry Mulligan.
