Re: Another Rare Laura Nyro Clip
This is from a performance at Yale in `73 (so she hadn`t been "countrified" yet): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCOY9vTb8vE This is from still another documentary promised but yet to see the light of day. The film in question here was apparently completed and "auctioned" - wha...

Re: Marriage, French Style and its successors
According to Serene Dominic's book 'Song By Song', 'Joanne' of Joanne And The Streamliners was in fact English singer Rosemary Squires, whose voice became very familiar to the British public because it featured at the end of a very popular TV advert for washing-up liquid intoning the line, "No...

Re: Marriage, French Style and its successors
Just wanted to add that the Here I am instrumental is so melancholy and spellbinding in only a way Bacharach can do. He is up there with the great classic composers like Tchaikovsky and Stravinsky if you ask me. He simply spent his life producing pop music but his orchestral scores really show the d...

Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach
A Girl named Eddy " People who used to dream". Sounds like a more modern version of the classic Bacharach sound almost like something I could hear Elvis Costello and Bacharach make in the 90s

Re: Im obsessed with Brenda Reid from The Exciters voice!!
Just listened to a few songs in the car and I'm right with you Geoff. She is a knockout ! She is distinct amongst many Brill Building singers in that she doesnt sound pristine and polished like Dionne Warwick or Sheila Ross from Royalettes)not really Brill but still). She is giving you the raw grit...

Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach
Beach Boys " Caroline no" sounds a bit similar to the Bacharach sound of the late 60s.I think Brian Wilson has stated his Bacharach influence as well so not really surprising.
Omg so much feedback on this page!!!!!

Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach
Barbara Streisands starting here starting now(A Richard Maltby/David Shire production) sounds the most like a Bacharach song if ever I ever heard one. Its literally Wanting Things with a few key changes and different lyrics.

The best version of "The Way We Were"
Doesn't belong to Barbara Streisand imo. I am partial to Eydie Gorme's various versions. In some circles that could be blasphemous but i feel the sentiment of the song more when Eydie sings it. She is probably one of the best singers of all time. It is a pity she became more of a variety act and neve...

Im obsessed with Brenda Reid from The Exciters voice!!
I think Dusty Springfield is quoted as saying when she first heard Brenda's voice on tell him she was stopped in her tracks and decided she was going to travel to America and pursue soul, and thank god she did. The Exciters are for the most part overlooked in comparison to many of the girl groups of...

Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach
The Brill Building productions of the early 60s could be a bit incestuous. Once again another Goffin/KIng song that could pass for Bacharach/Hilliard song. I hear shades of Any Day Now. What do you guys think?

The most beautiful Goffin/King song is a rarity
God bless the Al Gore's internet. I truly thought i knew most of Carole King/Gerry Goffins better work but the best song they ever wrote is pretty much unknown. Its Where Does Love Go?, by Freddie Scott. It's probably one of the most beautiful songs I ever heard in my life and just heard it today. G...
