Re: That's How Heartaches Are Made

Bonjour, In response to my own earlier post referencing the late Van McCoy as the one I thought wrote “That's How Heartaches Are Made” however it was another song I was thinking about entitled “When You're Young And In Love” also recorded by the Marvelettes. Another favorite of mine is Justine “Baby...

Re: That's How Heartaches Are Made

Bonjour mon ami, I remember when that song first came out. I was working at my dad's motel and they had jukeboxes in each room and I put a dime in and played it and was blown away! Several years later, I heard the Marvelettes' recording of this song and was blown away all over again. All these years...

Re: Essra Mohawk an obscure gem similar to Laura Nyro

Hi geoff85, I bought a CD of Essra's several years ago on a whim simply because it featured one of my all-time favorite singers—Bonnie Bramlett. I had never heard of Essra until I visited Bonnie's site and was reading the list of recordings that she appeared on. When I listened to the CD, I was plea...

Re: Close To You

Thanks Blair for sharing that link. That version (taken from "Make Way for Dionne Warwick") is my favorite. The piano chords that are used in this version are just sheer magic—they're not used in her 1972 version. If Burt wasn't playing on the 1964 recording, then there was somone named Pa...

Re: Mingus B`day Bash on KCR

Thanks Blair, I probably will miss most of it as I am employed and want to stay so. Caught him in 1968 at the Schlitz Salute to Jazz at the State Fairgrounds Arena in OKC. Also billed were Gary Burton Quartet, Dionne Warwick (sang the hell out of "Reach Out For Me"), and Jimmy Smith (who r...

Re: Roy Eldridge...

Thanks Blair for the info, I will most certainly check it out. (I'm sure you meant Friday the 30th). Also in reading WKCR's upcoming features, on Sunday the 25th from 10a.m.—8p.m. the music of Antonio "Tom" Carlos Jobim will be featured—that's his birthday. It's great to know that jazz and...

Re: new song

Thanks for the link bonkers! I have been waiting and wanting to hear the full studio version of this ever since I heard it featured in an episode of "The Nanny" YEARS ago. It certainly surpassed my expectations of it and wonder if it was arranged/produced by Burt himself—it sounds like it ...

Re: Alert for Coleman Hawkins Fans

Thanks Blair for sharing that info about the program. I missed it and am sorry that I'm just now getting around to replying. My parents owned and operated the first black motel in the state of Oklahoma along with a restaurant/nightclub. Before integration, celebrities would stay at our motel as they...

Re: "Lost Horizon" on tv

Thanks grooverider, I watched the original on getTv this past Sunday. It was the first time I'd seen it and found it to be more intriguing than the '73 remake. Burt must have taken his cue from the original's score with its minor keys, diminished and augmented chords, and overall exotic themes. It's...

Re: new Christmas song

Can't wait to hear it! I know it's a stretch, but I can only hope that this could be the start of things to come. Given Dionne's gospel background, I've always envisioned Burt composing songs of faith for her. Quite simply, they are the loves of my life.

Speaking of Glenn, shortly after that sterling duet, he continued his association with Burt's music having recorded "Love Will Show Us How" (Burt Bacharach/David Foster/Michael Jay) which was from the 1986 album titled "Take It From Me". If you haven't heard this gem, please chec...

Re: "Finder of Lost Loves" version Warwick/Vandross released

Thanks Downtown for the thrilling news! I also want to pass along some additional related news that I read from two (2) other sites (The Second Disc and Funky Town Grooves): In addition to the one you mentioned, there are two (2) more Arista expanded reissues: "No Night So Long" and "...
