Dionne at 68

Here is a YouTube clip of Dionne performing "What the World Needs Now" on a television program taped and broadcast in the UK this month and shows that at age 68 she can still put it out there, especially when she is rested and relaxed. She sounded great. What's even more amazing is that sh...

Re: "London Life"

Amazing how much this sounds similar to some things Tony Hatch did for Jackie Trent. Had I not known Bacharach/David wrote this, I would have guessed Tony did.

Here are two YouTube links, one version by Herb Alpert and the other Burt Bacharach but the quality is poor.

Here is a You Tube link to Tom Jones singing Promise Her Anything. The tune is also available in the Bacharach box set, "The Look of Love."

Re: Martini & Rossi commercials? (re: Loser's Lounge)

Alec,

A & E used the footage for the Burt Bacharach bio which aired on that network a few years back. Perhaps their research or clearance department or the producer of the program can help you with your search. Good luck!

Re: Blue Seas/Jac Music -- Hidden Valley Music

It is sad indeed that Florence lost it all. The settlement of $500,000 that Burt and Hal received for back royalties happened shortly before Scepter folded. It is interesting to note that the Shirelles sued Scepter for unpaid royalties as well in the late 60s. Scepter was known for pretty lax accoun...

Re: Blue Seas/Jac Music -- Hidden Valley Music

You're welcome-sure wish Bette Midler could get her Florence Greenberg bio-pic off the ground but as I understand it, there is a problem with the music rights for some of the Shirelles recordings. It has something to do with the survivors of Addie "Micki" Harris who died in 1982 and her po...

Re: Blue Seas/Jac Music -- Hidden Valley Music

Know this doesn't answer that question specifically, but is interesting nonetheless. Blue Jac Productions was formed circa 1962 and was comprised of Bacharach/David and the newly contracted Warwick and it was this production company which signed to Florence Greenberg's Scepter Records. A couple of D...

Re: Baby It's You

A bit of trivia: Alan Freed's wife Inga was a secretary at Scepter in the late 1960s. According to a friend who also worked at Scepter in the 1960s, Burt and Hal's relationship with Florence was strictly business and they rarely socalized with Florence Greenberg or other staff at Scepter. Scepter mo...

Re: Botched Lyrics

Even Dionne was not immune from botching a great Hal David lyric from what I hear on this recording! Am I wrong or in the 1970 tune "Walk the Way You Talk" she sings "so walk the way you walk and talk the way you walk" instead of "so walk the way you talk and talk the way yo...

Re: On the Virtues of "Be Aware"

Hal's lyrics are just great; reminds me of how he and Burt seem to mesh so seamlessly. I wonder if "Be Aware" was written as "Alfie" was where Hal's lyric came first and Burt wrote the music to the lyric or if it was composed first and Hal then wrote the lyrics? It was written in...
