Re: Burt in LA next month

Perhaps it's significant that at last year's cancelled event Bacharach was scheduled to perform while this time round he's merely doing a presentation.

Re: Bob Dylan

"When you're writing songs with Burt Bacharach, you obviously don't give a fuck what people think". Now which Burt Bacharach do you think Bob Dylan was referring to in that statement? The one with a long-standing reputation as one of the greatest popular music composers of the twentieth ce...

Re: latest news

I wonder that after nearly three years off the road Burt has decided that he can live without all the hassle of touring?

Re: Laura Nyro: The Search For Video Footage

The dear lady would have been 75 today and twenty-five years after her death she remains a little known woman of mystery. I read somewhere that a documentary film about her life is in the works and I should imagine that all the existing video footage of her performing will be shown in this film, inc...

Re: Dusty Springfield lived in Ealing?

When Dusty Springfield got her own TV series with the BBC in the late 60s the two things that immediately became apparent were her slightly wacky sense of humour and her musical versatility. I've heard her sing in French before but this is the first time I can remember seeing this clip of her singin...

Re: Dusty Springfield lived in Ealing?

Apparently Dusty was brought up in High Wycombe, a market town about twenty-five miles northwest of central London, before she moved with her family to Ealing in west London in the early 1950s when she was aged around eleven or twelve. By all accounts she was a real tomboy who loved to play football...

Re: The Bacharach Sound: 1965 TV Special

Thank goodness that this special was made by Granada TV and therefore was preserved because if it had been produced by the BBC it would probably have been wiped. The BBC was notorious in the 60s and 70s for wiping TV shows so that the video tapes could be used again. Given how precious little TV fo...

Re: Marriage, French Style and its successors

Interesting topic as I wasn't even aware that there had been a song adaptation of the instrumental Marriage, French Style and a recording by Joanne And The Streamliners. That it was Rosemary Squires singing under a pseudonym on that record makes it doubly interesting and let's hope it isn't too long...

Re: "I Never Cry"

That's a lovely song. Vince/Alice is obviously a man of taste and discernment because apart from admiring Bacharach he's a big fan of Laura Nyro. I remember being really excited by School's Out and Elected as a kid and recall with fondness my parents appalled reaction on seeing him on Top Of The Pops.

Re: Burt in Concert at the Adler Theatre 1986

Thanks for posting, Martyn. Despite the poor sound quality of the video it was an interesting and enjoyable watch and I particularly appreciated hearing the old instrumental arrangements of Promises, Promises and Do You Know The Way To San Jose. It certainly was a strange little interlude when the s...

Re: Traincha Sings The Burt Bacharach Songbook Vol III

......when the song eventually became a hit in the UK a few months later I remember there was quite a lot of speculation of a mostly jocular nature on pop radio stations and in the music press regarding the division of labour between the four writers credited with the song..... I also recall one or...

Re: The Via Veneto from After The Fox via Egypt.

After The Fox is shown a lot on British TV and every time I hear this piece from the score entitled 'Italian Fuzz' it makes me smile. Apparently it's Bacharach himself playing the Hammond Organ.

Re: Rumer: Two More Bacharach & David Songs

Rumer's version of The Windows Of The World is far more poignant and touching than any of the tracks on her Bacharach & David album and its exclusion doesn't make any sense at all. With just twelve tracks and a running time of around forty-five minutes it wasn't as if there wasn't enough room fo...

Re: Some Lovers: New album of the songs from the show

Knowing how seriously Bacharach takes these awards, I'm sure he must have been very disappointed that 'Some Lovers' failed to win the Grammy on Sunday night for Best Theater Album. The award went to 'The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical', with Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Cinderella' also trailing in its wake.

Re: Traincha Sings The Burt Bacharach Songbook Vol III

I agree. Both the lead and backing vocals blend wonderfully well with the arrangement. I've long thought that You'll Never Get To Heaven is one of Bacharach's most underrated tunes, not least by the composer himself who to my knowledge has never featured the song in one of his concerts.
