You're right, Ron, that much of the general interest in a Burt biography would have to do with sensational, lascivious details. While I'm curious about some of those details (wouldn't you like to know if there were any sparks between Burt and Marlene Dietrich?), I'm more interested in his observatio...

I want to echo Alvina's comments, Vincent. Your reviews always make me feel like I'm there with you. It must have been a thrill to meet Dionne again.

If you got any pictures, be sure to email them to me.

I was hoping to get a track listing before I posted an update to the main page of the site, but here's what's I've got: According to co-producer Jim Pierson, the five-disc set is called "The A&M Years Plus" and it should be released at the very end of September or early October (or at ...

Three books about Burt came out in short succession: Burt Bacharach & Hal David: What the World Needs Now by Robin Platts Burt Bacharach: Song By Song by Serene Dominic Bacharach: Maestro! The Life of a Pop Genius by Michael Brocken These are three very different books. Platts' is a concise over...

Thanks for your thoughts. We were on the verge of evacuating when Ivan started his slow turn to the north. Our good fortune was Alabama and Florida's misfortune. Judging by the devastation of Gulf Shores, Ala., it's amazing more people weren't killed or injured. And there's another tropical storm in...

According to Serene Dominic's book, Elvis has sung the coda during live performances: "But we still have Florence, Alabama/We don't have Paris and we don't have Rome/Or New York or even Amsterdam/None of these lonely towns will be my home." I'm not sure what the story was on the decision t...

Denver Post Interview with Burt

The link to Burt's interview in today's Denver Post is here: http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36%257E78%257E2389074,00.html There are also links to hear audio clips from Burt's interview with the Post's writer. The quality isn't great, but I thought some of our international would be interes...

Thanks for the post, GehVorbei. It clears up a lot of things.

I was hoping it might be released early next year, but if Burt says fall 2005, I'm prepared to wait.

I may be wrong, but I wasn't under the impression that Burt was going to record his Dr. Dre collaborations. I expect them to slowly become public, like the track on Chris Botti's CD, as performers choose to record them. I thought the original question assumed that Burt's work with Dr. Dre inspired t...

That was the album I asked him about, the solo album for Sony UK. Since he's only recorded four songs, I'm guessing it's at least six months to a year from completion.

That's one of the few questions I had a chance to ask Burt after his performance in San Diego. He said he'd only recorded four songs and gave me the impression it was still a long way from completion. Hip-O Select is releasing its five-disc Bacharach solo box set at the end of this month (or in earl...

San Diego recap

I was lucky enough to attend Burt's Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, performance in San Diego, the first of two open-air Summer Pops concerts with the San Diego Symphony at the Embarcadero on the edge of San Diego Harbor. It was a great night for a number of reasons. Tickets were hard to come by; if not a sel...
