Re: Traincha Sings The Burt Bacharach Songbook Vol III
......when the song eventually became a hit in the UK a few months later I remember there was quite a lot of speculation of a mostly jocular nature on pop radio stations and in the music press regarding the division of labour between the four writers credited with the song..... I also recall one or...

Re: The Via Veneto from After The Fox via Egypt.
After The Fox is shown a lot on British TV and every time I hear this piece from the score entitled 'Italian Fuzz' it makes me smile. Apparently it's Bacharach himself playing the Hammond Organ.

Re: Rumer: Two More Bacharach & David Songs
Rumer's version of The Windows Of The World is far more poignant and touching than any of the tracks on her Bacharach & David album and its exclusion doesn't make any sense at all. With just twelve tracks and a running time of around forty-five minutes it wasn't as if there wasn't enough room fo...

Re: Some Lovers: New album of the songs from the show
Knowing how seriously Bacharach takes these awards, I'm sure he must have been very disappointed that 'Some Lovers' failed to win the Grammy on Sunday night for Best Theater Album. The award went to 'The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical', with Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Cinderella' also trailing in its wake.

Re: Traincha Sings The Burt Bacharach Songbook Vol III
I agree. Both the lead and backing vocals blend wonderfully well with the arrangement. I've long thought that You'll Never Get To Heaven is one of Bacharach's most underrated tunes, not least by the composer himself who to my knowledge has never featured the song in one of his concerts.

Re: Bacharach arranged and conducted by Tony Hatch (complete album)
One of the numbers not on the album is Wives And Lovers and I have an LP by Tony Hatch from the mid-60s that includes his version of it with vocals by an all-male singing group. Listening to his jazzy arrangement that features solos for flugelhorn and tenor sax just makes me wish that he'd recorded ...

We finally got hold of a copy of the CD of the album and we're thoroughly enjoying it. Here's the album's instantly attractive opening track.

Re: R.I.P.—Marilyn Bergman
I watched In The Heat Of The Night again a few days ago and it reminded me of this song's inclusion in the movie. I think the combination of the film's subject manner and Quincy Jones's music took the Bergmans into areas that may have been new to them lyrically. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7HqIEtA...

Re: R.I.P.—Marilyn Bergman
It was unusual for a pair of writers to become well-known for collaborating exclusively on the lyrics of songs, especially when that pair just happened to be a married couple. Apart from The Way We Were (music by Marvin Hamlisch) and the Windmills Of Your Mind (music by Michel Legrand), Alan and Mar...

Re: The Bacharach Sound: 1965 TV Special
By 1965 Dionne Warwick would have already been well aware of Bacharach's fame in the UK after her visits to promote her single releases, and through her Hal David would have known of all the hype surrounding his songwriting partner, but I should imagine that they both must have been more than a litt...

Re: Traincha Sings The Burt Bacharach Songbook Vol III
The orchestration on 'Be Aware' is my favourite arrangement of all the songs on the album. I recently listened again to Laura Nyro's recording of the song which was released posthumously and was reminded that she didn't include the lines, "And while your stomach's full somewhere in this world s...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)
After hearing it on a French radio tribute to Bacharach the other day a friend alerted me to a version of 'Wives And Lovers' by Ella Fitzgerald with Duke Ellington which is from a live album recorded in Stockholm in 1966. Listening to the arrangement I can't imagine that it is by Duke Ellington hims...

Re: Traincha Sings The Burt Bacharach Songbook Vol III
I see that this album is now available on the streaming services Spotify and Apple but when I look for the CD on Amazon it's not there, not even on the Dutch version of the site. However, as I can hear the whole album for free on YouTube courtesy of Trijntje Oosterhuis herself, why should I worry ab...

Re: Jessica Radcliffe sings Bacharach at The Bull's Head in Barnes
We saw Jessica Radcliffe and her group at the Pizza Express in Soho a few weeks after her gig at the Bull's Head in 2019 and were really impressed at how comfortable she seemed with Bacharach's often tricky material. As for this Sunday lunchtime, we're going to wait to see how we feel on the day.
