Re: Bacharach, David and Warwick – three strikes against the

Ron, you help make my point: your offspring were exposed to this music through you. They were not brought in by seeing a tacky television show. My larger point is only that although I doubt Burt, Hal, or Dionne would decline a Kennedy Center plaque, trophy, coffee mug or whatever it is I can`t imagi...

Re: Bacharach, David and Warwick – three strikes against the

I`ve simply got to remember that irony just cannot be conveyed on-line. I wasn`t really serious about Mme. Tussaud`s. I was/am serious about the Kennedy Center nonsense. Youngsters ( I sound like Ed Sullivan!) not already familiar with the Triumvirate`s music will not discover it on this punishing b...

Re: Bacharach, David and Warwick – three strikes against the

I just knew that the subject of these pointless "honors" was going to be raised again. I urge all clamoring for the Triumvirate to be so recognised to examine the list of inductees to date and then decide just what in HELL such an award can possibly mean. Energies might be better expended ...

Re: Bacharach, David and Warwick – three strikes against the

Where did I get the idea that this thing was in Detroit? Did they turn it down? Did I imagine it?
At least I knew where A&R Studios were, having lived in the City. I`ve never been to the mid-west.

Re: Bacharach, David and Warwick – three strikes against the

By now everyone is sick of reading about how pointless I think these awards and various halls of fame are. There is, `though, something peculiar about the Triumvirate`s absence here. It has seemed, from the institution`s inception, to be far more difficult to be excluded from rather than inducted in...

Re: Dionne-Bacharach/David Review 1972

Well, there goes the only excuse for "Dionne"`s tepidity that I could think of. Yet, if Burt (if not Hal) was growing tired of playing Svengali for Dionne, how to explain the full roster of material lined up for `73 and ultimately given to Stephanie Mills? In my opinion, these songs were w...

Re: Dionne-Bacharach/David Review 1972

I think Burt was still involved in post-production with Lost Horizon when he realised that he and Hal had to cobble something together for Dionne`s Warners debut - which may account for the "tentativeness" that the album exudes. I don`t know how close to a deadline they were, but it seems ...

Re: Dionne-Bacharach/David Review 1972

I think I`ve posted my assessment of the album before, too. I always thought that it was unaccountably subdued (That was the word that came to mind), over-padded with covers, and of very short playing time. However I was so glad Be Aware had been included that I forgave the rest of the sluggish thin...

Re: Those two "completed albums"

Does anyone here really know nothing about those two albums Burt was said to have completed this year? Was one, perhaps, the cast recording of "Some Lovers"? To what end did he record (with full orchestra) his own version of "Pennies..."?
Mark? Are Burt`s PR people talking?

Re: "Two Hour Honeymoon"

The two must have laughed themselves sick while doing this; but you can hear it easily as a precurser to many of the What`s New Pussycat instrumentals.

Re: Interview with Burt

Hey, imagine how Tonio K. must feel upon learning that he was a cult figure "in the 1870s..."
By the way, the piece states that Burt has completed two(!) albums in the past year. Have I missed something here?

Re: Dionne Warwick and Rob Shrock playing at Blue Note 6/02/11

The only major disagreement I have with the above remarks has to do with the Elvis Costello songs which I believe saw a brilliant return to form on Burt`s part. The Bayer-Sager collaborations (with the exception of those on "Sometimes Late at Night") were an attempt to conform to an era le...

Re: Dionne Warwick and Rob Shrock playing at Blue Note 6/02/11

As I understand, there was to be a follow-up to the all-female duets album to be made with male vocalists. In light of the, uh, aesthetic results of the first album the plans for a sequel were dropped.
IN MY OPINION, we didn`t miss a damn thing.

Re: Dionne Warwick and Rob Shrock playing at Blue Note 6/02/11

Okay, as a matter of opinion, which would you rather listen to again - Just Being Myself or that god-awful duets embarrassment of a few years back? And, yes, Dionne`s voice HAS changed - from one that was among the most distinctive and flexible instruments in the world to one that can now barely car...
