Re: March 26 publicity Event?

Billboard has full coverage of the event, and the article indicates that the Phil Ramone-produced CD will offer Dionne's performances of two songs written by Bacharach without David, and two songs written by David without Bacharach. Nothing about "new" material, as we suspected: http://www...

Re: Dionne: New Bacharach Songs ??

Dionne's official Facebook page indicates "a couple" of new Bacharach and David songs will appear on the Phil Ramone-produced CD, and links to this article describing "some new original songs" by the team: http://www.etonline.com/news/119911_Dionne_Warwick_on_What_She_Thinks_Kill...

Re: The Fate of "Some Lovers"

Sadly, the reality in musical theatre nowadays is that it takes years to get a musical to NYC; just ask Stephen Sondheim or John Kander and the late Fred Ebb, all Broadway legends who in recent years have had shows close out-of-town or take circuitous paths before finally arriving. Andrew Lloyd Webb...

Re: Lost Horizon to DVD on October 4

Thanks, B2B. I, too, have long hoped this material will finally see the light of day, as well as the rest of the unreleased music promised by David Nathan in the Rhino Handmade liner notes for future volumes that, alas, never arrived...fingers crossed. Thanks, too, to David for getting Dionne's WB c...

Re: Lost Horizon to DVD on October 4

Has anybody here actually heard the fruits of those 1974 Bacharach/Warwick sessions? They've long been my true Bacharach holy grails. It's been said that the songs recorded were: "Plastic City" (Bacharach/Russell; registered 1974), "And Then You Know What He Did" (Bacharach/Russe...

Lost Horizon to DVD on October 4

It looks like LOST HORIZON will arrive, packed with extras, on DVD on October 4. The downside? It appears to be part of Sony's made-to-order DVD(-R) program rather than a pressed DVD. Some details here: http://www.oldies.com/product-view/1441ED.html Now, if only the laserdisc's isolated score track ...

Re: LOST Horizon

LOST HORIZON was released on a fantastic laserdisc, complete with isolated score track. Rumors emerge every year or two about a DVD/Blu-Ray release, but nothing's come of them...keep your fingers crossed, everybody, and that such a release includes the music-only track and more!

Re: Rare Bacharach

Lee has unearthed a number of treasures over the years. I urge readers here to check out the "Tuesday Morning Burt" post, especially, for two songs that weren't even catalogued in the main section of the Serene Dominic book. Lee has located recordings of: CRYIN', SOBBIN', WAILIN' (Bacharac...

Re: Beautiful Newish Burt song...

I can't recommend Nikki Jean's new album enough. "Pennies in a Jar" (the title track) and Nikki's co-write with Thom Bell (who hasn't been nearly as prolific as Burt in recent years), "How to Unring a Bell," will both linger with you way beyond the first listen. But the entire al...
