How does a man become a puppet...
I never heard this vocal till keith put it up here. But I immediately recognized the verse as "She's Gone Away," the beautiful instrumental from the Make It Easy on Yourself album of '69 or '70. I notice that the Ed Ames vocal is dated as 1970. I wonder, did Burt and Hal do that often - ta...

scranton, pa?
Does anyone know where I can get a listen to the "Get Me to Scranton, PA" song? I think that's the title, sung by BJ Thomas. I have never heard it, nor have I heard of an album that contains it. Would love to hear it; I am always looking to find BB treasures yet unheard. Thanks for any hel...

Thanks for the heads-up, blair. I've wanted to get hold of this soundtrack for years. Love "They Don't Give Medals to Yesterday's Heroes." Am eager to hear the whole score.

burt and sinatra
I read some years ago that Sinatra did not record much - if any - bacharach tunes because he found them too hard to sing. His style, sliding from one note to the next, couldn't easily accommodate burt's penchant for big interval changes from note to note. I thought he might have recorded "raind...

finding the CD...
I agree with Vince. I think the Japanese sites may have copies; they seem to love "all things Burt." You might also try some non-chain music stores. I occasionally go in and find older CDs, but used and unused. That's how I picked up my "Hidden Gems" copy of Dionne's great "...

question about a title...
Well, I'd like to help, but I'd need more than "something about Oz." Do you know the singer? The album? Any hints of the melody? Was it a sung piece or just instrumental, apart from the "oz phrase"? Help us out a little.

Burt and a quotation..?
I was just browsing the internet on various "Bacharach" related sites. I found one dedicated to unique quotes, and they listed this from the Maestro: "SYNONYM - A synonym is word you use when you can't spell the word you first thought of." There is no reference indicated as to wh...

burt and the "promises" score
Hey, Rio - Thanks for that info! That was really interesting. I saw that Encores show in NY and never knew Jonathan Tunick was there... of course, he naturally would be, wouldn't he... But I have heard of other musicians also saying they learned so much from working with BB. Lee Ritenour, bass playe...

Burt and the "Promises" score
I'm sitting here listening to the "Promises" cast album... No matter how often I listen to it, it's thrilling. It's getting close to 40 years old now, but it still sounds fresh and new, a true sign of a classic!... I'm especially hooked on the overture and I'm wondering - given that Burt h...

Dave, that album already IS on CD. I got it a few years ago, from Amazon, I think. Unless you are referring to a different album... This is the one with One Less Bell and Clost to You, along with the incredible And the People Were with Her. Hope you can get hold of it. Steve S

Thanks, Harry, for a humorous and touching account. It's not often we get to hear the personal, informal, unplan-able descriptions such as you offered. Burt really goes the extra mile. When you consider his age, his towering accomplishments, and the many other claims on his time and talent, that he ...

Burt and the Oscars
Does anyone know - Does Burt get invited to the big post-Oscar parties? Would he go if he did? In reading reviews of the awards show and its aftermath, I never see his name mentioned. He seems like a most likely invitee, having won many awards and contributed to so many films. Although, I get the im...

Best Interpreters
I'd like to throw a few other names in the mix.
Male: Michael McDonald
Female: Patti LaBelle
Now I realize that they haven't recorded a whole lot of Burt's material. But from what they have done, I think they show terrific promise and I am confident that they could make his material shimmer.

Questions about the new website
I am not a very computer-literate guy. I'm having trouble navigating the new forum. Does the new set-up include magazine articles about Burt, as the old one did? What about audio samplings of his recordings? If these things are still part of the new website, can someone please let me know how to acc...

Curious about the profits of Burt's songs...
Does anyone know whether or not there is a database or webpage where you could find out the profits made by various songs? I'm most interested in Burt's music, of course; but I suspect lots of folks would like to know, say, how much money "White Christmas" has made, or which of the Beach B...
