Multiple Degrees of Seperation

The resurrection of songs from the Love Machine ST reminded me of a (barely) relevant episode from my own life. Decades ago, I was absurdly employed as a doorman at a Cenral Park South hotel (long gone) that served as a transient home for passing rock bands as well as more or less permanent abodes f...

Re: Soft / Smooth BACHARACH

To be honest, Ron, I`m not sure that I can make the distinctions you`re making, but to play along (and maybe stimulate a New Year`s discussion here), I`ll offer "Who Gets the Guy/Girl?" and "Odds and Ends".

Re: Burt CDs

I`m assuming your reference to the "at This Time collection" is really to the multi-disc "Something Big" set released six or seven years ago. If you can still find copies on Amazon or e-bay, it`s probably still your best bet despite the duplication of a couple albums you already ...

I can`t say I care much for Mr. Young, but this is a nice song that had slipped by me. Thanks for posting it.

Re: More information on The Gift of the Magi

Jimmy Webb decided over a quarter century ago trhat, since the top 40 no longer smiled on traditional pop, he would have better luck with the ultimate tradition of the Broadway musical. Ask his amenuensis Robin Siegel how many projects and hundreds of songs have gone unproduced and unheard. My worth...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

I, too, was underwhelmed by Rumer but for me it has always been the song not the singer that matters.
(BTW, who ARE her "famous parents"? I`m old and had never heard of her before the couple of postings here).

Yeah, this is much more like it! If the rest of the songs live up to this, I`m on board!

Beautiful Newish Burt song...

...under the radar. I`ve just spent too much time unsuccessfully trying to copy the link, so go to YouTube and type : Nikki Jean - Part 4. It`s a song called Pennies In a Jar by a beautiful and nearly unknown young woman who also has collaborated with Jimmy Webb ("China"). This is part of ...

Re: favorite version of "Alfie"?

Maybe because I was so inundated with versions of this song by everyone and his dog back in the day, I never really warmed to it and rapidly became sick of it. It wasn`t until I first heard Burt himself sing it that it moved me. I think it was the version preserved on the otherwise forgettable "...

Re: Always Something There To Remind Me-1st recorded by Warwick!

Bto B: You`re probably right about Dionne not being able to stop the Rhino project; but I recall e-mailing Nathan about finding the remaining Bacharach/Warwick tapes from the mid-70s. His response was that he wouldn`t be finding them any time soon since the project had been halted and that DW had ma...

Re: Always Something There To Remind Me-1st recorded by Warwick!

If Dionne resented not receiving a commercial boost following the PFM project, why then did she stop David Nathan in his tracks during his Scepter re-issue project and declare that his efforts were "not appreciated"?

So...Burt`s essentially getting an award for having had successful back sugery and on the same night that Louie Anderson(!) is being recognised for creating a cartoon and being nothing like Rodney Dangerfield but getting an award in his name anyway.
You can`t make this sh-- up!

Re: How They Pick the Kennedy Center Honorees

This is as ridiculous as I`ve always maintained that it is. What kind of recognition is bestowed on Aaron Copland AND Oprah Winfrey? Art may be entertaining, but entertainment isn`t art. This award epitomises the blurring of the distinction. If America had produced a measurable fraction of the works...

Re: Wonderful video of DW doing Alfie last weekend in Amsterdam

I thought it was okay, but it brushed the jazz vocal realm where in this instance particularly I was reminded of and missed Carmen McRae.
