Re: Burt to write foreword to new book

Thanks Barry. Yes, I appreciate it was a subject you were going to have to broach with a great deal of sensitivity with the lady. I look forward to the book's eventual publication.

Re: Burt to write foreword to new book

Anyway, I am going to speak with Anita tomorrow, and I will attempt to give you and the forum an answer. Yes, please do. Although I find it hard to believe, I suppose she might, just might, have spent the past fifty years in blissful ignorance of the error and you're the first person to raise the i...

Re: Burt to write foreword to new book

The 'Reflect On The Hits Of Bacharach and David' is a nice album but the sad thing about it is the amount of time Anita Kerr and her singers must have spent on their otherwise lovely a cappella version of 'A House Is Not A Home' to make the harmonies sound as excuisite as they do, only to mess-up th...

Re: How Does A Man Become a Puppet vs. She's Gone Away

No, the music and the words just aren't a natural fit. You've got to hand it to Ed Ames for recording not one but two albums of Bacharach and David material. He's still around at the age of 92, bless him.

Re: I Say a Little Prayer Rehearsal Film from 1966

One extraordinary fact about Dionne's I Say A Little Prayer is that it completely bombed in the UK and to this day is rarely if ever heard on British radio. Was it even released as a single in the UK? Even though I was only a child at the time I was forever listening to the radio and I can't ever r...

Re: Blast from the past

Mark, when I said that Stefan Wesley had "disappeared" I didn't mean to imply that he'd, you know, disappeared from this world only that he was no longer conspicuous online. Certainly his Hitmaker Archive, the site that catalogued every known recording of Bacharach's songs, seems to have v...

Re: Blast from the past

Yes Mark, for me at least Stefan Wesley's name is the most conspicuous. Sadly both he and his famous Hitmaker Archive site have long since disappeared.

Re: New album in 2020?

Of course there was a time back in the mid-60s through to the early 70s that a Bacharach album could sell 100,000 copies in the UK alone. Two of his albums, Hitmaker and Portrait In Music, went Top 5 in the UK album charts, the latter hanging around the charts for several months. I'm not sure if 'Po...

Re: New album in 2020?

I hate to start the new year on a downer but judging by his comments in recent years regarding the state of the recording industry I don't think we should expect a new album any time soon, if at all. I'll be delighted beyond words if he proves me wrong, but I won't be holding my breath.

Re: La Belle Epoque

.......Didn't we do a thread a few years ago on unexpected places to hear Bacharach records? Yes there was a thread dedicated to hearing Bacharach in unusual places, from BBC's Gardeners World using excerpts from the soundtrack of 'Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid' to me overhearing a group of sc...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

I don't associate Harry Connick Jr. with Bacharach's songbook but I've just discovered this on YouTube. I'd forgotten how indebted to Frank Sinatra Connick's singing style is so I suppose it's inevitable that he'd cover one of the only two Bacharach songs recorded by Frank. https://m.youtube.com/wa...

Happy 60th birthday today to Corinne Drewery, lead singer and songwriter in Swing Out Sister and a fellow Bacharach fan. 'Mama Didn't Raise No Fool' is a favourite of mine of theirs.

Re: With A Voice

Slower than I remember it from Oxford last year but still special. Based purely on this concert version of the song I'd say it's one of Bacharach's best compositions of the last fifty years.
