Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

And never were they more fickle than in the UK, or so it seems and more than fifty years later it still surprises me that Petula Clark's 'Colour My World' completely failed to chart here. I believe Jackie Trent blamed it on the use of the sitar for alienating some of Petula Clark's core fan base. ht...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

I couldn't agree more about the tempo and maybe it's because it was Matt Monro singing it that inspired Tony Hatch to give the song more of a ballad arrangement. I've been checking out the various covers of this song but no one's is a patch on Petula Clark's original recording. However, for a change...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

Tony Hatch's orchestral version of his most famous song starts off quietly but it eventually captures some of the excitement of his arrangement for Petula Clark's hit recording. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OMNLRDzBs9Y I don't think Tony Hatch ever recorded an instrumental version of one of his an...

Re: Be Aware

I`m pretty sure that the studio recording was arranged and produced by whomever was assigned to Streisand at that time. I don`t believe that Bacharach had anything to do with it. But my memory isn`t what it was, so we`ll see.... Blair, according to the publicity I've read concerning the forthcoming...

Re: Be Aware

Here's the performance of 'Be Aware' on the Bacharach TV special from 1971, about four minutes into the video after her duet with Bacharach on 'Close To You':

Re: Bacharach TV Special From 1972

Bacharach is complimentary on the show about the Bricusse and Newley score to their then soon to be staged musical 'The Good Old Bad Old Days' and I wonder if he heard echoes of one of his own tunes in this particular song? Coincidentally, Vikki Carr performed part of the Bacharach song I'm thinking...

Bacharach TV Special From 1972

Although many excerpts from Bacharach's 70s TV specials have been posted on YouTube over the years it's rare indeed for one of these shows to be posted in its entirety. This one is from 1972 and features guests Sammy Davis Jr, Anthony Newley and Vikki Carr. Bacharach performs the extended version of...

Yes, there's a conspicuous lack of a microphone.

News of two new releases this year, including the demos she recorded for an audition in 1966.

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

Revolver TV have recently posted on YouTube a video of Laura Nyro's one and only TV appearance. This footage of her performing 'He's A Runner' and 'Save The Country' from January 1969 is far superior in quality to the video previously posted of this clip, both the picture and the sound. Watching thi...

Re: R.I.P. BJ Thomas

He was a class act with a unique voice. Love all the Bacharach tracks he cut and I'll never tire of hearing them, but probably my favourite BJ Thomas recording is this exceptional interpretation of a great and much covered song by Jimmy Webb.

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

One famous pop composer recording an album of his arrangements of another famous pop composer's hit songs is still a unique concept fifty years after Tony Hatch released 'What The World Needs Now', his purely instrumental collection of a dozen Bacharach classics. Being familiar with Hatch's instrume...

Re: To Wait For Love

I'd forgotten about a version of the song that's probably as 'definitive' as it gets and it's the recording from 1964 by Patti Page that lay in the vaults at Columbia until 2013 when it saw the light of day on the 'Lost Masters' compilation.

Re: To Wait For Love

I concur with the others regarding the quality of that rendition. The song is so familiar it's easy to assume that it must have been a hit for someone at some stage but apparently that's not the case, unless that is you think that Herb Alpert's 1968 recording reaching No.51 on the Billboard Hot 100 ...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

Yes, the US versions of the early albums would invariably be shorter and would also include hit singles. I believe they recorded Beatles For Sale in a state of near exhaustion after a year of trying to cope with 'Beatlemania' and that tiredness was something that was very obvious to my ears when I f...
