Re: Happy birthday, Master Burt Bacharach!

You probably have some idea of how much your music has meant, still means, and will always mean to countless listeners. For me, personally, your music has spiritual qualities that make me feel the creative, beautiful, healing and life-giving presence of God. I deeply appreciate not only your tremend...

Re: Rumer has it

Beautiful track! You know, if Burt were younger, and if there were still a wide enough audience for quality vocals and not mere vocal acrobatics, Rumer could be an heir to Dionne...

Re: "He Who Loves"

Thanks for posting that, Blue. I think I heard it once, some years ago - pobably right on this board. I love the piano fills and riffs in it; very Bacharach. Sounds like maybe it was him playing. There's something about these songs - right from the get-go, you know it's one of his. The chords, the r...

another little-known: "Gotta Get a Girl"

This Frankie Avalon song was mentioned by Serene Dominic at the end of his book, during an interview with Burt. Has a very distinctive BB sound.

"Three Wheels on My Wagon"

I don't recall seeing this posted before, and I had never heard it until I found it on youtube. In case you care to listen, this is a "not-so-great" but historically interesting song by Burt and Bob Hilliard.

Re: "Happy Is A Color"

What a terrific find! Thanks so much for posting it. I LOVE hearing these hitherto unknown, hidden gems. I love how Jack Jones voice comes right it on the downbeat, with no intro; Burt has done that before, beginning with the voice right off. Does anyone know if BB/HD wrote a full body to this song;...

Best track from the "Isn't She Great?" Score

I thought "Isn't She Great?" was a pretty poor film, but it was great to hear Burt's music in it, nonetheless. I particularly like this, which I think is the best track on the entire album. It's both a traditionally "Burt" kind of sound, but with a little wistfulness thrown in, t...

Here's "Trouble." Very nice, indeed. Had never heard it, nor heard of it.

Another great song and arrangement

I think the topic of Burt's great arrangements is a terrific one. A song I've loved since I first heard it in 1971 on a juke box in a Boys Club in New Jersey, is "Long Ago Tomorrow." BJ Thomas's rendition is superior, I think. And listen to the creative and unusual use of the strings, the ...

Re: Burt`s Melodic DNA - This is for you, Ron...

Blair, thanks for posting those links. I'd never heard most of them, and while they all hint at a Bacharach influence, none does that moreso than the first, that wonderful "Don't Take Your Time" by Roger and the Small Circle of Friends. What a great song, and what a great example of being ...

Re: The Fate of "Some Lovers"

Blair, I've been trying to find some answer to the same question. Since the end of its San Diego run, I've periodically "trolled" the LA and San Diego area newspapers for any word about where it will go from there, but so far no luck. It would be tragic to have so much music written by one...

Re: Bacharach autobiography Coming in November

I also don't expect a very detailed look inside his personal life, nor would I really expect him to give us that. I don't really care about the ups and downs of his marriages. I definitely would like to know about his professional relationships with Hal and Dionne, and with Carol too, since she was ...
