10 Least Favourite Bacharach Songs
'Least Favourite' is a very polite term for these songs that I'll be more than happy never to hear again. It really is so much easier making a list of Bacharach songs I dislike than compiling a Top Ten of favourites. Here they are in roughly chronological order: 1/We're Only Young Once - The Avons 2...

Re: Burt & Melody Federer "Bridges"
It's markedly different to the voice/piano performance in London 18 months ago and all the better for it.

Re: Burt Bacharach and Joss Stone, London, July
Thanks Davide. A set comprising twenty-five songs, twelve of them sung by Joss Stone and what must be unique for a Bacharach show, no medleys. Interesting that David Joyce, the long-term synths player in Bacharach's touring band, got to sing 'Live To See Another Day'.

Re: Burt Bacharach and Joss Stone, London, July
A very thorough review of the Dublin show last Saturday evening that mentions virtually every song performed. In common with all the shows away from London on his European tour it doesn't feature Joss Stone:

Re: Burt Bacharach and Joss Stone, London, July
[quote="nowmedical"]Remarkable - for Joss Stone singing "Are You There With Another Boy" If she really did switch the gender around to sing "with another boy" it would have been somewhat remarkable and would have given the song a different slant altogether. Here's a rev...

Re: Burt Bacharach and Joss Stone, London, July
Joss Stone performing The Look Of Love at a gig a few years ago, which going by her comments was before she'd even met Bacharach and was still hoping that one day she might get the call:

Re: Burt Bacharach and Joss Stone, London, July
I think we're going to be struggling when it comes to a personal account of these shows as I don't know anyone from the London crowd that's going.

Re: Lou Johnson 1941 - 2019
My personal favourite Lou Johnson/Bacharach recording was the b-side of Reach Out For Me, an undeserved fate for such a catchy song:

Re: Hiromi in the UK
I think Carmen McRae's recording of 'Alfie' is pretty stunning and I just love her phrasing. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5ozYKIWfRpQ I'm aware of two further Bacharach covers by Carmen McRae, The Look Of Love and Close To You, but I don't think either is up to the standard of her recording of Alf...

Re: Hiromi in the UK
Renee is great! But don`t miss Hiromi. I once had reservations for a performance by Carmen McRae -the only singer I ever really loved -at the (then-new) Blue Note. Something that I can`t recall caused me to miss the gig and she died not long after. Here`s a great show of the kind I missed: https://...

Re: Hiromi in the UK
I don't know about Hiromi in Manchester but if I was based in New York I'd definitely descend upon the Village Vanguard this week to see the Renee Rosnes Quartet. She's been a favourite jazz pianist of mine for years and I've been lucky enough to see her perform live twice, once in London at the Fes...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)
I never thought much of Another Tear Falls until I heard Gene MacDaniels' riveting performance of the song. Hearing it again now courtesy of this thread made me think of another Bacharach and David song he recorded, this one a real rarity from 1959 and one with interesting enough chord changes to in...

Re: JW - Slipcover
Whenever I hear Jimmy Webb himself performing Wichita Lineman or any one of the dozens of cover versions it really can sound like "just another song" and it was Glen Campbell and his producer/arranger Al De Lory on the original recording who supplied the magic and have given the song its l...

Re: JW - Slipcover
Webb has just commented on the album on his Twitter page. The line, "These rock star composers are the Gershwins of our time", might raise the odd eyebrow or two!

Re: R.I.P.—Doris Day
Doris Day was a uniquely talented lady, a great singer and a terrific actress with a tremendous flair for comedy. Every time I hear 'Send Me No Flowers' I wonder how such an attractive song could completely fail to be a hit and, even more puzzlingly, why it remains little known to this day. It's a ...
