silly question 5

So Burt came all the way to England to record Alfie with Cilla Black (because he was apparently desperate for her to sing it). We've all seen the B&W studio video - but where was it recorded? Maybe Liverpool (her town and hence her marked vocal accent)? There's another band who came from there,...

not sure, I haven't heard of him for years. He was always fairly minor league here in the UK. He had some good complex songs - Never Let Her Go, Baby I'm A Want You etc.

I can't get excited about this song either, but congratulations on your correct placement of the apostrophe after Avons!

silly question 4

OK, so we've explored the Olivia N-J and Carpenters connections. What about David Gates, who seems to float in the same rarified atmosphere as Burt: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JiRFbx-xXhY Why does my brain link these two? Does anyone know a connection between Burt and DG (apart from his similar...

I was at the concert in London (at the Royal Albert Hall in Kensington) when Swing Out Sister supported Burt. They had a bad sound mix that night. I have also seen them twice at a much smaller (and far better) venue - the Jazz Cafe in Camden, London - and their repertoire of songs is remarkable. The...

silly question 3

Am I the only person who thinks that "This Guy's In Love With You" - often described as the perfect song - grinds to a complete halt after the chorus?

Maybe it's because I'm English.

Sam

You say Sam is Bacharach-styled, but I can't think of a single song of his that matches it. What drove your comment?
Sam is the converse of Burt - simple chords, a bit like the Beatles.
