In short, just how did Stephanie Mills inherit that trove of B/D songs?
She was young, cute, and a hit in The Wiz but it took more than youth, cuteness, and popularity to attract Burt`s and/or Hal`s serious attention.

If memory serves (and mine often doesn`t), Stephanie Mills reported that it was Hal who pretty much produced For the First Time and was, in fact, in the studio (unlike Burt).
The album credits reverse the usual "produced by Burt Bacharach and Hal David" for this one project.

Okay, having (finally!) restored my computer after a crash, I`ve listened to the above-cited compositions. Sadly, although I know where and why I`m supposed to be loving them, I`m not. The familiar arranging flourishes are all there, and the melody lifts (sort of) where it should, but I`m still miss...

I`m going to have to be more vigilant regarding new song links. As of now (6:15 pm est, Tuesday), Something That Was Beautiful has been denuded of its audio in all three versions on You Tube.
Just Walk Away elicited re-hab anthems which I doubted were renditions of the song alluded to here.

With entertainment awards proliferating like bacteria in a Petri dish, I don`t see how it`s possible to take any of them seriously. Who honestly cares to whom these statuettes, plaques, sheepskins, or whatever are bestowed? I doubt that Burt is losing any sleep over not being asked to stand next to ...

I can`t improve on the above, I just wanted to contribute my best wishes to the man who rescued popular music when it was all but gangrenous. Who knew there was more to be done and then some? Only Burt!

Still, it`s too bad and all too instructive that one crummy movie could not only split up Burt, Hal, and Dionne but end Ross Hunter`s career as well.
