Re: Is it just me?

I'm going to disagree on this (desperately trying to hold on to some youth here.....). The Grammy's have paid way too much respect to classic rockers and oldies in general. Pop music is not necessarily about quality songwriting - it's about what young people like - and I think that was reflected in ...

Re: New....

Scary stuff - Stoops draped with bodies....and cups of coffee....help ! Blair - I'm surprised you're not more receptive to the Some Lovers songs. I think you're a fan of Painted From Memory and to me Every Other Hour (Come in Ogni Ora) (especially as performed by Karima) sounds like it would be perf...

Re: Burt loves Rumer - Do any of you?!

Hi Diane, I'm becoming a big fan of Rumer. I recently got her "Boys Don't Cry" album and I've really enjoyed it. "Same Old Tears On a New Background" - need I say more ? One question - On all the songs I've heard, Rumer is singing in a very controlled fashion - and I'm wondering ...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

I love this.
I was once putting together a Winter themed mix CD.
I wanted to include this so to justify it's inclusion, I labelled it "Sleigh Ride to Wengen" by Marvolo's Toe !

Re: Come To My Garden

Very happy for you that you got this great album. Amazing achievement by Charles Stepney - and Minnie of course. Shame that her career didn't pan out as it could have (and of course that she died so young). She was a beautiful soul. Getting aquainted with her music, I felt like a love sick puppy. To...

Re: Random great songs not written by Burt.

Here's a couple off the wall selections - as per Geoff's direction, these are non-Bacharachian: Holger Czukay - Persian Love http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxYqKgWMbFQ - weird iranian mash-up...but classic.... Betty Boo - Let Me Take You There http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20lIYP-YYKI&feature=r...

Re: Broken Record ?

Yeah - a post of mine has been resurrected !! Thanks Geoff85 ! Didn't know that Charles Stephney worked with the Dells ...and The Love We Had Stays on My Mind is a classic. Another branch of his career to explore is Rotary Connection....some quite wacky psychedelic stuff here. My personal faves: I A...

Re: "Who Get's The Guy"

I had never heard this before and it's really beautiful. Thank you so much for posting. What album is it from ? Are there any other great gems that I'm missing ? I must check "Song by Song".... Impossible to imagine the powerhouse female vocalists of today doing anything so vulnerable. I c...

I downloaded a crummy mp3 of this performance from napster and I've been looking for the video ever since.
Thanks for posting.
What a performance !!!

Re: These songs, and more, need more exposure.

I think this is a really interesting topic. I share your frustration that: 1) These songs were not hits (and in our opinion they should have been) 2) They don't get any airplay 3) The traditional qualities of good songwriting are not generally reflected on the radio / in the charts I don't have any ...

Re: Always Something There To Remind Me-1st recorded by Warwick!

I wonder what the fate of Who Is Gonna Love me would have been if the djs had stuck with that. That really is one of the uncelebrated Burt, Hal, Dionne classics. Deserved to be a hit.

Re: Amazing

Agreed. I've had this thought before. Promises Promises on it's own is such a treasure trove.

One song you neglected to mention is "Who Is Gonna Love Me" - which I think is an under-appreciated classic.

Fantastic chord changes / Phenomenal Dionne vocal / so elegant !

In the tragic absence of Karen Carpenter, how about the next best thing (or better ?) - KD Lang ?

Re: Jimmy Webb

Many thanks to all for continuing the post. I will be gratefully following up on your recommendations. I saw Jimmy in Larchmont (NY) in April. Tiny venue....Thoroughly enjoyed the show. Afterwards he signed my vinyl copy of the Supremes album. "So you really like that album huh ?" said Jim...
