Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach

For me the most Bacharachian non bacharachian song is this one. Shades of walk on by and are you there with another girl at 0:01 and could 0:13 be any more Bacharachian with that Bossa Nova rhythm section. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EazY2R6HHoo This Brian Wilson production has the most Bacharac...

Re: Did Phil Spector write one lyric or compose one note?

Phil Spector was a Genius, Here's a song he co-wrote with Carole King and Gerry Goffin. It certainly wouldn't please today's "politically correct" brigade. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f20Oz9Yr_So "blue" I've always heard about this very controversial song but have never had ...

Re: Did Phil Spector write one lyric or compose one note?

Spector is certainly credited as co-writer on most of his biggest hit's as well as producing them. His recording engineer was Larry Levine and his arranger was Jack Nitzsche. Most of his hits were recorded at Goldstar Studios using a group of musicians famously known as "The Wrecking Crew"...

Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach

I am posting alot of not so obvious Bacharach sounding songs. Parts of this song give me a whats new pussycat as well as a bond street vibe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyRqdzF8swY Lou Christie lighting strikes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIGtnlw31Ok lulu porter brass bottle...... the melody...

Re: Another great song that sounds like Bacharach

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVM6ZVJzupM Teddy Randazzo " magic"..... Im probably pushing it with this song but i swear i hear shades of wives and lovers. Teddy's creative approach to production is also Bacharachian. I find Randazzo to be the perfect blend of Bacharach and Lieber Stolle...

Did Phil Spector write one lyric or compose one note?

Sadly i wasnt around during these grand ol times but from what I glean it seemed like Phil Spector is the most glorified recording engineer that ever existed. However is there any proof that he had a hand in the melody or lyrics of any of the songs with his name attached to it. As a musical investig...

Perfect song for the Magic Garden album?

I could see 5D doing a number with these sublime harmonies. This melody would have been begging to be arranged by Jimmy Webb. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11x9V1OyKpg Who will buy? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPeO-V-dkWI The Nancy Sinatra version is a bit Gershwin meets Rodgers Hammerstein me...

Question about Chuck Jacksons Any Day Now

I have always wondered did Lieber and Stoller have a hand in the production of this song? I know they worked with Burt and Hal on a few songs in the earlier years of the Brill Building Era. Both songwriting tandems were heavily influenced by latin music coming out of Brazil at the time but I always ...

Re: Let's Pretend We're Grown-Up

Lol this is ridiculous and sublime at the same time. Burt Bacharach's sense of melody can make the most childish vocal arrangement sound catchy. There is so much double entendre in this song its not funny especially the last line about Christmas lol. Thats why i love forums like this because i dont ...

Re: " Didn't We" Best Version??????

Guilty as charged. I was born in 85. The songs that were popular then are still in somewhat still in rotation now. I have yet to hear one version,of didnt we on radio. I never heard my parents play any version. So it was, obscure to my ears, but ill, have to take the word of the og's of that era.

Burt Bacharach on steroids????

Sorry if the title was misleading. Ha ha. Now that I have everyones attention. What songs show Burt unrestrained not so much quintessential Burt as much as Burt amplified. Meaning employing as many of his idosynracies into one song. For me it would have to be Promises Promises. The meter changes are...

Re: " Didn't We" Best Version??????

Where have I "written it off as garbage"?! My opening comment - I thought - simply acknowledged the fact that "Didn`t We", like "Raindrops...," is one of the most over-exposed songs of our age and needs a very long rest. The coda is one of my favorite pieces of JW`s mu...

Re: " Didn't We" Best Version??????

Honestly, this is one of those songs - like "Raindrops..." - that I would pay a great deal of money to assure that I`d never hear again. But, to play along, I`ll nominate the Webb-arranged Thelma Houston version, exclusively because of the coda (expanded and developed for their "This...
