Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)
Blue, yes it's a beautiful track and shows a side to Led Zeppelin's bassist that most people wouldn't have known existed. Of course John Paul Jones along with another future member of Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Page, played on sessions for Burt's 'Hitmaker' album in 1965. I hadn't realised until recently t...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)
Madeline Bell has recorded a few Bacharach numbers in her time and his influence is very pronounced in a song that she co-wrote with John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin, a track in which he not only plays piano but also arranged and produced. In fact he was at the helm for the whole of Madeline's 'Comin...

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)
Talking about Dusty Springfield's love of Bacharach, here she is with Martha Reeves and the Vandellas on Ready Steady Go in 1964 performing 'Wishing And Hoping'.

Here's Madeline Bell talking about how it was working as a background singer on Dusty Springfield's recording sessions and also about Dusty's love of Bacharach.

Re: Burt Bacharach Documentary (2001)
Blue, that's a documentary I've never seen before so thanks for posting it here. Although I don't think there's much that's new to us it was good to see the likes of Steve Lawrence, Neil Simon and Leiber & Stoller who we're not so used to hearing talking about Burt and to get their different per...

Re: Burt recording at Capitol between 2004-2006
The session may have been for Bacharach's album 'At This Time' released in October 2005.

Re: Bacharach Reimagined Piano
I saw the Bacharach Reimagined show at the Menier Chocolate factory and if I recall correctly the piano was an upright, which depending on the make would normally cost anything from a grand to around £8,000. I think only an auctioneer specialising in the world of entertainment would be able to value...

Re: Alt Version of "Pennies in a Jar"...
A live rendition of 'Pennies In A Jar' featuring Nikki Jean alone at the piano and of better quality than the live performance posted on here before. The song's piano chord inversions are so typical of Burt.

Re: Alt Take of "Pennies in a Jar"...
'Pennies In A Jar' is very 21st century Bacharach.

Re: Rhino's "Look of Love" turns 25
The part of the discussion on this thread that I have the most trouble getting my head around is that of a musical figure as legendary and iconic as Burt Bacharach being referred to as "always underrated" by US rock journalist Stephen Holden. Certainly for those of us who grew up in the UK...

Re: Rhino's "Look of Love" turns 25
I recently re-read Ian MacDonald's 'Revolution In The Head' and I agree with him that the remarkable thing about the Beatles was that while there's been many popular composers better qualified to write music more sophisticated in form and technique, few if any were capable of displaying feeling and ...

Re: Rhino's "Look of Love" turns 25
I've read a lot of absurd things written about the Beatles over the years, both pro and con, but that statement by William F. Buckley which appeared in The Boston Globe in 1964 at the height of Beatlemania and posted on here by Blair is probably the most preposterous of them all. The quote from Step...

Re: The Bacharach Sound: 1965 TV Special
Burt wasn't joking when he stated on the show that London had become a second home for him in 1965 because apart from filming that special he also recorded his 'Hitmaker!' album here that year and then wrote and recorded the soundtrack to 'What's New Pussycat', all in between walking around Hyde Pa...

The Bacharach Sound: 1965 TV Special
Videos taken from the 1965 TV special 'The Bacharach Sound' featuring guests Dusty Springfield, Chuck Jackson, The Searchers, The Merseybeats and Dionne Warwick have been posted on here before, but not the complete show. Made in the UK by Granada Television the special's opening sequence of Bacharac...

Re: Rhino's "Look of Love" turns 25
The first thing that struck me about this 3 CD collection when it was released was how poorly the Carole Bayer Sager years were represented, with just three of her seven Top 40 hit collaborations with Bacharach included. The compilers left us in no doubt that in their opinion the inclusion of severa...
