I seem to recall a similar long wait. I ordered the set prior to the official release date and assumed that Hip-O Select, like Rhino Handmade, would ship the box to arrive on that date. Not so. They used up every single day of their estimated shipping time, which was disappointing considered how exp...

Thanks, everyone. I don't know how lucky she is, but I certainly feel like I lucked out.

Maybe we should start another thread about the best Bacharach songs to play at a wedding...

Thanks, Vincent and Roberto! Yes, she is indeed a fellow Burt fan so I'm happy to say there will indeed be some--maybe more than some--Bacharach at the ceremony and reception. Although I should add I recently saw The Heartbreak Kid for the first time, so there's a good chance our song won't be "...

Wonderful news! I'm surprised he's returning so soon, but that's obviously a testament to the overwhelming response he received in Italy. I think Burt sincerely appreciated the outpouring of support for his music from the Italian people. I'll write Burt's publicist to see if she has any more info on...

Jerry Orbach dead

I didn't realize he'd won a Tony for his work in "Promises, Promises." Orbach and Jill O'Hara's rendition of "I'll Never Fall In Love Again" is probably my all time favorite.

I'm not sure I remember a full-band arrangement of "God Give Me Strength." I've got a version of Kristin Vigard accompanied only by piano that I recall from the movie. Is the version I have the same one that appeared on the Rhino compilation CD "Love Scene: Romantic Movie Music" ...

The reason the other tracks from Arthur 2 were not included on the Something Big set was due to licensing issues; Universal does not own the tracks, they would have had to come from Warner Bros. Actually, we were lucky to get the two tracks we got! Just out of curiosity, why didn't "Move It On...

Let's just be thankful it wasn't Ernest Borgnine.

(Wasn't George Kennedy in "The Dirty Dozen"? I know he's not on the soundtrack, but did he sing (or "sing") anything in the movie Lost Horizon?)

You got yours already? I'm still waiting. Guest, you're so right about the website being inadequate. The copy seems geared toward casual fans despite the fact that casual fans aren't likely to shell out $100 for a set of non-hit recordings. The Hip-O Select site should really include more informatio...

Good news! I forwarded your question to David Nathan, who supervised the previous Dionne reissues in the series. Here's his response: "We are working on it now and expect to have some kind of release date for it in the next few weeks. You can stay updated on this by subscribing to our mailing l...

Hip-O Select has begun taking preorders for its long awaited Bacharach box set, Something Big: The Complete A&M Years...And More . The five-disc set, which will be released on Nov. 5, features in their entirety each of Burt's solo albums for A&M in addition to his Kapp recordings and several...

Each show has some slight variation, but it's basically one he's been doing since the mid-90s. It consists of extended medleys punctuated by several full-length songs that serve as solo spotlights for each of his three vocalists. It's a substantial show and it comprises a truly amazing number of son...
