From "Sometimes Late at Night"

This album, by Burt and Carole, was not "the tops," but I think it's largely underrated, as others have noted here before. This song is particularly beautiful, and it features the late Michael Jackson. The opening melodic line of the song is so unmistakably from the mind, heart and hand of...

2 more good but little-known songs

HEre are two rarely heard songs, both done by the Stylistics. I'm sure I've seen them posted here before, but not for a while now. The first is "I Just Don't Know What to Do" (not "I Just Don't Know What to Do with Myself"). The second is "Hang Your Teardrops Up to Dry."...

Questions for Burt's Memoirs...

On the chance that Burt, or someone near him and with pull, might read our site here from time to time, I'm suggesting we fans post the questions we'd most like him to answer or expand on in his Memoirs. They're probably already written, if they're to come out in November, but in case not, here's a ...

another favorite, different artist

This is another great BB/HD tune. I think it has been posted here before, but for those who may not have heard it, nor not heard it by this artist, it's worth a listen. The artist is Jim O'Rourke, an Irish-American guy out of Chicago who has actually won awards for music production. He's also releas...

Re: beautiful song for a cold day

Blair, glad you got a visit in. It's a great time of year to be in the city. You are right, though, about its unaffordability. I live in a suburb about 45 minutes by train from Manhattan. I love to go in just to walk, maybe catch a movie. But generally, rents, restaurants, cabs - it would suck me dr...

Re: beautiful song for a cold day

Likewise, the whistler on "Who Gets the Guy?" another very under-rated and under-played song, I think.

35 year old "duet", recently copied on TV

Last season, on "GLEE," they had a night featuring BB music. Two of the characters sang a duet and a, whaddayacallit, when 2 songs are overlapped and combined... anyway, I noticed immediately that they were copying the arrangement Barbra Streisand had song on one of her 70s albums, combini...

beautiful song for a cold day

This site has been quiet for a few days. Here's Trijntje Oosterhuis doing a great job (at least I think so) with "This House is Empty Now." Enjoy! How about putting up some more little-heard songs by our maestro?

little heard song, on TV yesterday

Hi all. I know this has been posted before, but I caught "Send Me No Flowers Today" on TCM yesterday, and I really love this song. It's light, but it has that trademark Burt style. Doris does a great job with it.

New Year's wishes for us and for Burt

Here's hoping the New Year is a blessed one for all on this site. I hope and pray that Burt continues in good health too, and that he continues to be so productive with his exquisite gifts of music.

Re: Fascinating! Burt and the Blue Devils

Blair, there is still December chill in the air, and the sweet smell of roasting chestnuts. I was in Manhattan yesterday, and while I didn't hear any marimbas or steel drums in mid-town, the rest of the Christmas feel was present in force. A blessed New Year for you and yours. steve

Fascinating! Burt and the Blue Devils

Came across this video of the Concord Blue Devils (they are a college Drum and Bugle corps). Apparently they did a whole tribute to BB music. Here's a clip of their rehearsal for "I Say a Little Prayer." You'll note on the YouTube sidebar clips for other Burt tunes done by them. http://www...

Re: any news about "Gift of the Magi"

Are there any members of this site who live in the San Diego area? I was wondering what "the buzz" on Gift of the Magi is... Has anyone out that way seen it? Do you hear people on local TV talking about it, or are you reading more in the local papers about it? I'm hoping there will be enou...

A home film of a screening party for Lost Horizon

Found this on YouTube. It's a 16mm film of a home screening party for Ross Hunter's Lost Horizon. The host, whoever he or she was, must have been connected with the making of the film, for they have lots of memorabilia. Some music plays in the background, and there is a near complete showing of the ...

Re: "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" demo

In case you didn't already know it, that song was part of "On the Flip Side," which Burt and Hal composed for a short-lived ABC TV program. I believe it was 1967 or so, and I think it was called Stage '67. Ricky Nelson sings it on the recording of the show.
