Re: One of BB's most beautiful

Here's the version of 'The April Fools' by Percy Faith (orchestra and chorus) also from the original soundtrack. A little bit Henry Mancini, a little bit Ray Conniff. Nice though.

One of BB's most beautiful

I've always loved 'The April Fools' the song but have yet to see the movie and until recently had never heard Marvin Hamlisch's instrumental arrangement of it from the original soundtrack (see below). Have no fears as it's very Burt-like! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGdbYqWyDvE&feature=related

Re: Funny version of Wives and Lovers

Hilarious! What incredible timing that woman had.

I've got a few vinyl copies of her albums, all of them on the risque' side and full of Cole Porter songs like 'Let's Do It', 'The Laziest Girl in Town' and 'The Great Indoors'.

Thanks for alerting us to the video.

Re: A review of the show 'The Sounds of Burt Bacharach'

I saw the show in Hornchurch last night and with a few misgivings really enjoyed it. Well, it's difficult not to enjoy a show that features somewhere in the region of 35 Bacharach numbers that cover a pretty broad spectrum of his output, and as a woman behind me said, "He's a jack of all trades...

Re: Jimmy Webb

Webb has a new album out later this month called Just Across the River which features him duetting on most of his famous songs with all sorts of big names like Willie Nelson, Mark Knopfler, Billy Joel, Michael McDonald, Jackson Browne, Glen Campbell and Linda Ronstadt. The album also features a solo...

Re: Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time-2010 Edition

Rolling Stone is a rock rag and they've virtually ignored Bacharach since the very first issue. However, in The infamous albums reviews book that they published around about 1980 the very same Dave Marsh who thought so highly of 'San Jose' 'awarded' most if not all Bacharach's solo albums a bullet (...

That Andy Williams recording of Wives and Lovers has quickly become my favorite version of the song. Great to have it here.

Re: Put Your Youtube.com Links Here! (if you want)

I bought the Baroque LP in the early 70s but lost it in a house move a few years ago. I remember it being a fascinating listen - a Baroque group playing extended chords for pity's sake! - but it doesn't all work as well as 'Promises, Promises'. In the early 70s I had a school summer holiday job help...

Re: A review of the show 'The Sounds of Burt Bacharach'

If it wasn't for Deborah mentioning she was going to the Hornchurch show on the 22nd of June, rather than in May, I would have wasted a journey to the Stables in Wavendon tomorrow as I wasn't planning to book in advance. It's too bad that the show's site still hasn't corrected the error and I've now...

Thanks for the marvellous, appetite whetting review, pljms. I'm seeing the show at the stables, Wavendon next week.

Re: BBC radio2 Sound of the 60s 3 in a row

I find Sounds of the 60s essential listening because of the amount of rarities they play on the show. Apart from the three BB songs in a row, last week's show also featured the Cryin' Shames' UK hit version of 'Please Stay', which I've always much preferred to the version by the Drifters because of ...

Extraordinary footage, Blue. Because of the reference to 'Yakety-Yak' being at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 at the time I've calculated that this was from April or May 1958, so it must have been the US public's first sighting of Bacharach on TV. What's interesting is that after this TV show it woul...

Re: Kristen Chenoweth - I Say a Little Prayer (live on TV)

It's a perfectly good rendition and arrangement, of course, but that doesn't mean it should be in the revival of 'Promises, Promises'. The short interview with Kristen Chenoweth before this performance is also on YouTube and it's noticeable how the two hosts avoided asking questions about PP until t...

Re: Bacharach a subject on BBC's Mastermind

The question doesn't state that DW recorded the demo in '63, merely that the Merseybeats had their UK hit with the song that year. According to Serene Dominick's book DW's demo was recorded in '62.
